I'd like to introduce to you the newest member of Tight Whip$:

The "Bannana Milkshake" 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille

425 cubic inches of raw torque, 7 miles of white leater & that

special Cadillac feel.

This afternoon at 3:00pm I sold my Datsun and then travelled

down with Sofia in the B-59 to visit my College Friends in the

south-east part of the state. Sofia had a blast with Jim's

daugher Chloe & I showed off my '59 Buick to the crazy nut

who got me hooked on them to begin with, first time seeing

him in two years. He is visiting from Arizona.

So then at 10:30pm XP drove me up to Milford, NH to buy my

Bannana Cream Pie Caddy. The ride down was uneventfull,

except for a few mini-burnouts at red lights.

These photos are from last Saturday when I test drove the car.

Oh, sweet, Sixty8. I like the mellow yellow!

I have a soft spot for the interiors of these- my grandfather had a '78 SDV and my other grandfather had a '76 Seville. Have to say the 'banana yellow' would be a deal-breaker for me. One of the last (until then) great Cadillac motors, tho.

Question- why another after you already had & sold one? Or was Big Red XP's?

COol color...I don''t know why but I have issues with 70's cars...I can't stand the chicklet headlights.

Definitely not the most attractive color for that car. Absolute worlds better than a $h!box Datsun.

Yes of course, it IS a "Two Door Sedan deVille" but you know Cadillac,

five years later they had "Roadster Edition" 4 door sedan Bustlebacks.

Does NOT make any sense except to a guy from Florida who wears

white shoes/belt/pants/sport coat/hat.

When I got back from the roadtrip where I met up with you in 2005

XP715 was in a position where he HAD to get Big Red out of his grand

parent's back yard, he had NO storage. So he offered Big Red up to

me pretty cheap. I guess all those years of me preaching to the world

about the superiority of RWD, BOF big boats w/ pushrod V8s payed off

because of all the @$$holes Ross knew who were into cars he thought

I'd be the perfect candidate to buy Big Red.

So I took in Big Red like a poor orphaned child. I had seven or so cars

already in my driveway with room for another four or five. Just having

gotten back from the roadtrip and Christmas approaching I never had

a chance to pay him for the car becfore he came up with a crazy plan.

It was a win/win scenario. He registered Big Red as an Antique & I

stored it at my house. It was HIS car but for the free storage he gave

Marcia & me a set of keys to her and free reign to drive the car any

time so long as he did not have plans ahead of time to use her.

So for a few months Big Red was a semi-daily driver for me. The

girlfriend was driving the Datsun while the STS was being a douchebag

to us agian and eating money like a trash compactor.

Also, even when the STS was not being worked on I drove Big Red

quite often cause the car was so addictive. Loved that big old 425.

Sure it's a baby compared to the 472/500 motors but it's still a

monster compared to the 307 Oldsmobile motor powered 1980s

Cadillacs I'm used to owning.

You got me... the only thing I'm going to miss is the 5-speed. But

as you know, according to a fellow on B-59.com there is a $300

adapter I can buy which will allow a Muncie (4-speed manual) to

be fitted into the LeSabre. I've threatened to convert many big

old American boats to sticks, but this time I just might pull the

trigger and do it. Big old skullhead shifter knob mounted on top of

a bent lever sticking out of the floor.

HOMEWRECKER!

About 150 miles so far... only "problem" has been super-saggy headliner

and sueaky V-belts. I eliminated problem #2 by tightening the Alternator

& Power Steering Pump to make the belts taught. Meantime I got

headliner glue from XP and attempted to glue the sagging material to the

foamy, droopy mess that is still attached to the roof. It did not work well

at all and so in a moment of frustration I ripped all the white pleather off

in one piece. I'll figure it out later today.

I love this thing!

First 200 miles have been super enjoyable.

For all I know, this could be MY car.

Friends of ours in Big Sandy TN have a cinnamon brown '79 Cadillac Sedan DeVille ... simply awesome car . I've driven it a few times ... and hope to drive it again this year when I visit them.

I tried to save a Copper/white/white 1979 coupe from the

junkyard about a month before XP draqgged Big Red to my

house. The car was 99% complete, the only thing it was

missing was wheels & a few trim pieces on the inside.

By the time I went back to grab a few things off it it was

CRUSHED. I wanted to kill those motherf**kers. They stack

totalled Acuras, Hondas, Toyopets & Lexi 4 cars high & keep

'em for 7 years but that car gets crushed in a month. WTF?

The one consolation was that at least ONE small part of that

car lived on... I grabbed the Hood Ornament off of it and

since Big Red came with no H.O. the whole time Big Red

was in Tight Whips ownership it wore that copper coupe's.

I still have it, when XP went to sell B.R. I replaced it with a

regular one off of a F.B. and took the aerodynamic one off.

Anyway it's funny that you mention that because that's the

car that made me fall in love with these coupes. The way

Ray Leota drives it in that movie is hillarious too. Between

his poor brother stiring the spaghetti sauce, Bobby DeNiro

bitching about metric silencers not fitting his standard

firearms & the freekin' Helicopter that's following him all

over town, he drives that old 2.2 ton Cadillac like it's some

Porsche 911 or other sports car.

The first night I had the '77 Banana Boat I locked up the

brakes & slid down a twenty foot section of Rt.3A in a nose

dive just for $h!s & giggles.

No matter how many cars I own and how many modern

imported sporty & high end luxury cars I drive I still have

yet to find a car more comfortable and fun to drive than a

big BOF Cadillac. There's just nothing else like 'em and if

things keep going the way they are there NEVER will be a

car more comfortable than these '60s & '70s Land Yachts.

As far as putting mad-cool danks on my hoopty I'm actually

thinkning about putting on the LED light-up plastic-chrome

hubcaps I bought from AutoZone on clearance as a Joke.

I have a set of 14"s and 15"s. Of course it would be only as

joke for a day or two but it be funny to get a photo of the

car with them on, they make all kinds of paterns with four

different colored LEDs.

I was at the junkyard today... there was a 1982 Coupe deVille

in there... it was the pedestal for a 1996+ STS. The blue

exterior complemented the white carrige top and white interior

very well. I could not beleive all the Northstar powered cars

that were there. They had over two dozen of them, most of

them were Eldorados & STS from the mid 1990s.

My neighbor had one in Silver when i was a boy. If you ever change color I suggest silver as it is the Cat's ass as a color for that car.

But don't pay too much attention to Brian, it looks good in yellow too.

How did you ever find a rust free car up north here? I've seen Cadillacs of that Era that you could damn near see through from one side to the other with rust.

I probably look at four dozen cars for every car I end up

buying. Considering how many cars I buy/sell that's why

cars are my FULL time hobby. I might still buy that 1976

Buick LeSabre 4dr. if only so I can tell people I've owned

a 455 powered Tri-Shield.

A 455 buick would be a cool addition to your stable. One of the benifits I have of being a little older is that I remember these cars from my youth. The very same next door garage that had a cadillac like yours (honest to god) had a 455 buick in it when we got new neighbors. I still remember that car. White with a red interior, red top, 4 dr, 36,000 original miles.

Guy that owned it only drove it to high school basketball games.

God I miss living next door to that car.

Wow, that sounds like a sharp color combo., although a red car with a

white interior does look best with a white roof, but that's just just my

preferance. Again, I'll post a pic of BIG RED as photographic evidence.

Yes, I sold it to buy the 1959 Buick. It still sites in my driveway but it

belongs to a crazy car guy in the Netherlands who has arranged for a

shipping company to pick it up in the next few days.
