May 10, 200718 yr If you are at all interested in model railroading (HO scale, etc.) or railroad museums in general, check out the following links.... Valley Model Railroad Club, S Elgin IL: http://www.trainweb.org/vmrr/index.htm ...My parents used to take my sister and I here at least once a year. Each time, we'd see a slightly different layout. It was always a fun time and one that we eagerly anticipated. The drive to get there seemed to take FOREVER. Now, we know just how CLOSE it really is! Fox River Trolley Museum, S Elgin IL: http://www.foxtrolley.org/ ...I've been here a couple times ... not much lately ... but, as with the VMR noted above, is very very close. Illinois Railway Museum, Union IL: http://www.irm.org/ ...I've driven by this place a few times, but have not had the chance to actually stop and take a look. One day, I will. And, of course, my own layout: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/collection...inRoom_JPG.html So ... any railroad museums or clubs near you? May 10, 200718 yr There's a railroad museum not too far from me- been there once. A 1 mile walk to see 8 miles of layout. They have a running engine outside with some track (wasn't open when I was there and I don't recall the engine config.) www.northlandz.com I used to model railroad and it still appeals to me, but I don't have the time for it anymore.
May 10, 200718 yr about the same here. I don't have the room for it. Now once we get a place of our own, I'm planning on taking a room and turning it into a train/model room so that I can do model railroading again and also be able to still build my car and plane models.
May 11, 200718 yr Author Balthazar, Holy cow ... that pic ... looks like spaghetti . Must be one heck of a neat layout! Sadly, I don't have much time for my HO scale train either. BUT ... I'm hoping to get it back up and running ... and make some more changes to the table within the next few years or so. It's one of those things (like the legos) that I love to do ... could spend hours working on it ... but, just don't have the time to devout to it like I want to right now..... C'mon early retirement . He he! May 13, 200718 yr On a slightly larger scale, I went to the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina this week. It's a former railway station that focuses mainly on trains, but has other forms of transportation too. http://www.nctrans.org/ If you're looking for a relaxing place to spend a few days, I highly recommend going there and neighboring Salisbury. The whole area is an absolutely beautiful example of the small town South.
May 13, 200718 yr Author Early retirement would be nice. *nods* Indeed! He he ... I can think of sssooo many things I could and would do . *sighs* Enzora ... thanks for that link. I may be in NC at the end of November ... may have to add that to the itinerary .
