Peter Egan wrote an article in Road & Track

a few years back about this topic.

What is YOUR current cylinder count?

A few weeks ago my cylinder count was:

1984 Dastun Maxima "Zwei" (w/sunroof): 6

1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6

1959 Buick LeSabre: 8

1964 Oldsmobile Super 88: 8

1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille: 8

1996 Volvo 850: 5

1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8

TOTAL: 49

The Volvo, Super 88, Maxima "Zwei" & Coupe

deVille are now gone, BUT I have acquired

two more cars... The Roadmaster Estate & a

very solid 1976 LeSabre 4-door Hardtop with

455 power.

So now my fleet is as follows:

1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6

1959 Buick LeSabre: 8

1976 Buick LeSabre: 8

1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate: 8

1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8

Curret total: 38

So as much as I am getting yelled at for

having too many cars in the driveway I've

actaully sold more cars than I've bought...

and my cylinder count is WAY down.

Now keep in mind this is NOT counting Marcia's

Q45 [8] XP715's Lincoln Limousine [8] and the

roommates's cars... Volvo 240 [4], Chrysler PT

Cruiser [4] & Julies' Taurus [6]

So technically all the car's in the driveway

total 68 cylinders.

Wait a sec... are we counting lawn mowers, &

other such small internal combustion motors?

I don't have any cylinders to call my own, so I'll just go by the household number:

John Deere: 2

ServiceStar-Briggs & Stratton: 1

other assorted lawn/garage motored tools: 8

How much and why was I not made aware of this...?

Seriously... I'm interested.

It seems like yes, because they too have Cylinders and hence they count. Not trying to pick on you, but you needed to be more specific Sir.

Seriously... I'm interested.

This is why:

Perhaps I misjudged, but I didn't think a camper-conversion would be your cup of tea. If you're still interested (or anyone else, for that matter...), let me know, I'll give more details.

Meh...not as big as I'd like...

The '48 will get a SBC when the time comes to actually putting it back together. The 528 will soon get traded in for something else, most likely with at least 8 cylinders.

Man, I love V8's...Nothing like 'em...

Despite the doomsday thread I think it looks like

most of us here either have a V-8 or three or

plan on buying one in the future... I myself have

six in my driveway, four of them mine, one XP's

and one belonging to the ex. I think the new

broad will probably end up with a V8 car too if I

have anything to do with it.

Well, since I'm not old enough to have a long list of my own cars...I'll include the family's as well (bold is current)

Mine:

'94 Lumina - 6

'90 Lumina - 6

Family:

'04 Explorer - 6

'96 Windstar - 6

'97 Monte Carlo - 6

'92 Eighty-Eight - 6

'93 Villager - 6

'90 Grand Marquis - 8

'88 Colt - 4

'88 Cutlass Ciera - 6

'87 Golf - 4 (diesel)

'84 Cutlass Ciera - 6

'83 Rabbit - 4

'78 Corvette - 8

'68 Corvette - 8

'78 Dodge Warlock - 8

'79 Mark VI - 8

Total today: 40

Total over a 30 year span: 182

I'm going to include the 2 cars I own now, and my past cars...

Present:

1995 Buick Riviera-6

1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88-8

Past:

1978 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight-8

1986 Toyota Camry-4

1985 Chrysler Fifth Avenue-8

1996 Ford Taurus-6

Total=40, so far....

Mine

1981 Bonneville. Olds 307 V8

2005 Equinox. 3400 V6

making for a grand total of 14.

Still have the same old cars:

Prelude: inline 4

IS300: inline 6

Silverado: V8

Total: 18

I don't see myself getting another vehicle with a V8.

Hmm...didn't even think about past cars....

Current total (see above) = 38

Adding past cars...

'88 MC LS ... 8

'97 Corsica ... 6

'00 2-door Lumina LS ... 6

If I did not forget any : 204... and I did not count 2 vehicles that I owned without motors.

Lifetime.... oh dear.

If I count all my demolition derby cars I just might be at over a hundred.

Oh you want the ones I did own too. Well

1981 Caprice 2-door 229 V6.

1979 Impala 305 V8.

2000 Monte Carlo LS 3400 V6.

Current ones just to keep the story straight.

2005 Equinox 3400 V6

1981 Bonneville 307 V8.

Should I count the 1976-77 Bolens lwnmower with the Tecumseh engine? Ok Lets not.

For the car total we are at 34 cylinders. I dont buy and sell that much. I keep my vehicles for a long time, Unless they are leased like the Equinox is.
