October 3, 200520 yr GARDENA, Calif. (AP) - Nissan Motor Co. said Monday that its U.S. vehicle sales jumped 16.4 percent in September as car sales surged. The Japanese automaker sold 93,540 vehicles during the month, up from 80,350 in September 2004. Car sales rose 26.5 percent to 56,134 vehicles as truck sales inched up 3.9 percent to 37,406 units. Nissan-brand sales grew 17.6 percent to 82,478 vehicles as sales of is popular Altima sedan rose 24.2 percent to 26,442 units. Meanwhile, Sentra-model sales climbed 65.8 percent to 11,172 units. Infiniti-brand sales rose a more modest 8.2 percent to 11,062 vehicles. Nissan shares rose 6 cents to $23.04 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq.
