June 12, 200718 yr Just saw a new Saturn ad with this tagline. Not only are they getting a Camry in the dealerships, but an Accord too.
June 12, 200718 yr I like the "Rethink American" idea but I also liked, "Like Always, Like Never Before." I think Saturn has the product to back up these strategies and the Aura will size up well to the Camry and Accord. Ford's, "Have you driven a Ford lately?" campaign was similar, but they couldn't back it up.
June 12, 200718 yr Watch it here: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/11/saturn-...paign-launches/ Btw, "Rethink Asdf" is a bit "SHIFT_asdf", no? Edited June 12, 200718 yr by empowah
June 12, 200718 yr Damn, that line at the end of that commercial is great! "You can test drive the Camry, the Accord.... and the North American Car of the year, the Saturn Aura sport sedan"
June 13, 200718 yr Difference: Rethink isn't ghey. Geez, you're SO last year. Nissan's on LAME_2.0 now...
June 13, 200718 yr So does Saturn have to buy a 2007 Accord now and then a 2008 in the fall for each dealership? I've already posted before that I think this is an incredibly bad idea. GM is just going to expose more people to the Camry and Accord. If the shopper is a GM die-hard then they would likely never have considered going to see or drive either the Camry or Accord. If the shopper isn't a GM die-hard, then this accomplishes nothing as the shopper has already driven (or will soon drive) the Camry and Accord. I'm not sure if this is happening in Canada. If it is, I'm going to drive to the Saturn dealership, ask to drive only the Accord, and then ask them how much they want for it.

I hope they only do the Camry (LE 4-banger) when the new Accord comes out.
June 13, 200718 yr They just need to get stripped models with no features. Then the value becomes clear V6 for a price of a 4. I think it is going to work.
June 21, 200718 yr They just need to get stripped models with no features. Then the value becomes clear V6 for a price of a 4. I think it is going to work. Looks like that is pretty much what they are doing. Their comparison sheet compares the Aura with the low end V6 to the 4 cyl accord and camry. It compares HP and torque. For some reason they forgot to include fuel economy! :AH-HA_wink: (Or anything else that the competitors really beat the aura at)
June 22, 200718 yr Oh well, let them forget fuel economy. The car has enough other merits to sell on.

That's the Toyota dealer's job. Saturn Marketing's job is to sell Saturns. The Aura is great enough of a car that NONE of the other competition is a "slam dunk" on the Aura and the Aura isn't a "slam dunk" on the competition. That in itself is a major step forward for any of the mid-sizers at GM. This isn't the current gen Malibu that gets pwned by the Accord and Camry on everything except price. June 22, 200718 yr like i said before... this direct competition, and model comparison teaches the dealerships and the salespeople... HOW TO SELL! like they say... the best way to sell a GM is to put it side by side with another vehicle... ride for ride, accel for accel... it doesnt matter what the magazine says... who has more hp... who's gas pedal is the most freespirited? who's ride makes you not so anxious to stop at your destination...
