Appears 68 will need to go find the "practice car" if he'd like to see a mint '57 Plymouth Belvedere. This one is looking pretty rough...

Yeah there really dosen't seem to be any rust holes in her...it looks like a lot of caked on mud. The doors are rusted shut however, and the trunk lid is being held up and looks to be pretty fragile :(

WOW! Incrediblw the capsule was perfectly preserved! They should throw in another car for the next 50 years. and actually put a sump pump in the vault. Imagine in 50 years pulling out a blackberry and a laptop.

Why is the online stream taking commercial breaks with no commercials <_<

Its cool that the time capsule held up and everything inside is mint....but that poor Plymouth :(

The winner will not be announced until June 22, they need time to tabulate the results.

I wish the car had held up instead of the time capsule... Maybe they should have welded a sealed steel box around the car!

Does anyone have a screen capture to share?

Well the vault that the car was in was welded shut from what I've heard...ocn, the stream quality is pretty bad....the ppicture is very pixelated.

Any other pics on the net yet of the Plymouth? I can't get the video to work...

Chris

Sigh, I can't believe how anxious I am about this old Belvy... :(

yep, they are cleaning the chrome up. If you look real close the paint color is still on there and so is the white paint. I would seriously consider getting the mud off of it.

Yeah Coddington has no clue what he's talking about...it's mostly mud, that baby is clearly in decent shape under all that crud

I really hope they attempyt to clean it up.

Its starting to tick me off to know that the car is not in nearly bad a shape as theyt have made it out to be.

They haven't found the keys for her...maybe they're in the time capsule or were left inside the car somewhere? I don't know why theu weren't in the ignition.

KOTV website says concrete vault with car on steel skids.

Well let's hope they clean her up, it's sad how much the water damaged the interior...the glove box was on the floor because the bottom fell out. The chrome looks like it will shine up real nice though.

Yes, but on the unearthing broadcast today they mentioned the vault being welded shut.

Damn, damn, damn... :(

It may look bad but its not as bad as you may think. When I first opened the electra i thought that it would be impossible to clean. I was wrong so hopefully they do realize that the car is ok.

And how about those fifty year old tires holding air :)

Raven, water is a death sentence for a car... at the very least, all the electricals will be destroyed...

Rustbucket, thy name is Belvedere! :P

Considering it is a known fact these cars began rusting when new the fact that this thing has been in water for fifty years and is still in one piece and actually dosen't appear to have any rust through is a miracle.

The body yes, but the interior probably not. If the glove box falling to the floor is any indication, the materials used on a car's interior cannot withstand 50 years of being submerged.

I couldn't be sure, but I thought I saw a huge rust hole in the trunk floor.

Maybe, my stream was very $h!ty....I'm sure there is rust through in some places, I just couldn't make out any from the stream. ALthough these cars are famous for losing their trunks and floorboards to rust.

Sealed concrete vault.

"The concrete must not have been as good as we hoped it was,'' Couch said. "It had some failures over the years; the concrete didn't hold.''

I thought it was welded shut...oh well

anyway here is a nice Belvedere to enjoy....it is one of my favorite examples of 50's fins.

My problem with these Plymouths is... the bumpers don't seem to fit correctly, thay always seem to be misaligned, plus, I don't think they look like they belong on the car.

I love the bumpers on these cars especially with the optional wings...

here is a base model '57 Plaza rat rod.

It's better than DCX....Mopar that is.

No pics yet, my stream was not good for captures

For anyone that missed the show tonight, it will be shown again tomorrow @ 9 AM Central time, oklatravel.net
