Professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in the family's Georgia home Monday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said.

Complete story

 RIP Chris, I'll miss you..

Aww! I used to watch him. he was really good at wrestling! he will be missed!

...USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

...investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son

Somebody jumped the gun, no?

That sucks...he was one of my favorites too.... :banghead:

R.I.P Chris-you will be missed.....

It is pretty much confirmed a double murder-suicide...officials estimate that Chris Benoit murdered his wife and seven year old son, possibly on Saturday and comitted suicide on Monday the 25th. :nono:

Obviously we won't know for sure until the autopsy results are in and the estimated time or death for each body is determined, and the one who has been dead the shortest amount of time must be the murderer. Don't tule out the possibility of the wife being the killer...anyone remember Phill Hartman?

If it's true that he did it, his legagy is forever ruined, which sucks because he was one of my favourites.

Why Benoit, why?!?!?!?

What a mess. Benoit was all about respect. This is a sick way for him to go out.

According to my local newspaper's website, he strangled his wife, smothered his son, and hung himself in his weight room. This is really sad. I saw some of Raw last night and everyone who spoke about him spoke of the respect that everyone had for him. I wonder if anyone knew something wasn't quite right with him before the weekend.

I don't mean to sound cruel, but if that is in fact how he went out (killed his family and then himself), I just fail to have any sympathy or respect for him. So forgive me.

According to my local newspaper's website, he strangled his wife, smothered his son, and hung himself in his weight room.

Absolute tragedy. I still question the motive. Were all deaths premeditated?

By the way, for those who don't follow wrestling, two weeks prior to this event, CEO Vince McMahon's character on the show was blown up in a limousine. The ongoing story arc up until last night was, various players were grieving the death of Mr. McMahon, and federal investigators were involved, etc. So now, the suspension of disbelief is thrown all out of whack.

Sad, it most likely was Roid Rage. He most likely had no clue what he was doing when he did it. :(

Thats the latest. Reports are saying thats what happened... :censored: I used to respect him and now this happens...

Odd story: I went into the Cold Stone Creamery this afternoon. I was the only customer. The kid behind the counter (the only visible employee in the shop) was making my sugar-free Founder's Favorite when he suddenly bursts out "are you into wrestling?" I was like "pardon?" "are you into wrestling at all?" "no, dude." "do you know who Chris Benoit is?" I said "oh yeah, I read about that" "did you know he died?" A very odd outburst, imo.

Statement from the WWE

WWE® Shocked At Latest Developments In Benoit Tragedy, Concerned By Sensationalistic Reporting

Written: June 26, 2007STAMFORD, Conn., June 26, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment is stunned and saddened by the details released by local authorities concerning the double homicide-suicide involving Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son, Daniel.

However, WWE is concerned with the sensationalistic reporting and speculation being undertaken by some members of the media following the press conference held by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney. During the press conference, the investigating authorities made the following points, all of which run contrary to the media speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the senseless murders and suicide:

1. The authorities stated that all drugs found in the house were believed to be legal prescriptions.

2. Steroids were not, and could not, be related to the cause of death (asphyxiation). Authorities had no factual basis to speculate as to Benoit’s state of mind, and rightly did not do so.

3. Toxicology tests have not even been completed, so there is no current evidence that Benoit even had steroids or any other substance in his body. In that regard, on the last test done on Benoit by WWE's independently administered drug testing program, done on April 10, 2007, Benoit tested negative.

4. The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage. The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death. By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage. The presence of a Bible by each is also not an act of rage.

5. WWE strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time as to the motive for these acts.

WWE is continuing to monitor the ongoing investigation being conducted by local authorities.

With all due defference to the WWE wanting to cover its own ass, I hope to God it was caused by steroids or some other chemical or narcotic-induced frenzy and that this was not an instance of cold premeditation. I don't want to think a father would murder his own child in a normal frame of mind.
