June 28, 200718 yr Am replacing the front springs on a 1967 Camaro resto. Is it possible to get the springs back into their perches with out some kind of spring compressor? I noticed when I removed the old ones that they had to be pried out as they were under some compression, my manual doesn't mention any advice on this issue! Thanks again, hipirn..
June 28, 200718 yr Dear God- Do not F around with coil springs. Too many web horror stories. I used an internal compressor to re-install my front springs, plus I wrapped a chain around everything in case the compressor was chinese and would decide to let loose at any given moment. Bound coils store a S-load of energy. Edited June 28, 200718 yr by balthazar
June 28, 200718 yr Never owned a spring compressor, always used a floor jack (with a long handle). Seriously though, be very careful, the force contained in a spring can be very violent when released. I may buy a spring compressor for next time.
