GM Tuner Rolls Out Production Version of Ironhide From Transformers Movie

MONROE, Wis. — All Transformers fans know that Ironhide is the slowest Autobot, but also the least vulnerable to attack. He transforms into a GMC TopKick 6500 pickup — and now a GM tuner has rolled out a production version.

Monroe Truck Equipment, in association with toymaker Hasbro, says the production version of Ironhide includes custom 20-inch aluminum painted black wheels fitted with monster 40-inch tires. The GMC TopKick normally comes equipped with dual rear wheels.

Other details include two chrome big-rig smokestacks, horizontal stainless steel step tubes, custom front and rear bumpers with textured powder-coat finish, and a 16,000-pound winch mounted on the front bumper.

As Ironhide would say, "High-tech circuitry is no replacement for guts."

What this means to you: Now you can look and feel like Ironhide.

Oh, and the article has a typo... "Ironhide" is based on a modified (by Monroe) GMC 4500 Topkick, not a 6500 (the hood/headlights are the dead-giveaway); but to prove it, here's a GM photo of the hood emblem:

Any specs? That is one mean truck!

If I had plenty of expendable money and wanted a big, rather pointless (for me), macho truck to drive around when I felt like scaring some Tundra's, this would be it.

Heh heh, cute little guy. :AH-HA_wink:

I am surpisd GM has attempted to do more of these themselves...just throw a few transformer edition cars on the lot to pull in fans.

The inevitable has happened. But, one question...does it come complete with the autobot badge stamped into the tailgate? :AH-HA_wink:

Honestly, though, as much as I love how badass they look, the Topkick/Kodiak pickups aren't all that useful. The beds are still only good for 5500 lbs (only 500 lbs more than a Silvy 3500 crew cab), the engines are comparatively underpowered (330/620 hp/tq vs 365/650 for the silvy), and the transmission is only good for a 26000 lb gcwr (16000 lb tow rating). If they could boost the gcwr to where you could tow 25000+, then it'd be something...

Well, if they stuck to the cars that are featured in the movie, they'd have one real opportunity to do so, with the solstice. GM doesn't do the Topkick pickup in-house; that's Monroe's baby. The Camaro isn't out, and the H2 would just be green paint.

That would be one badass commuter car..but I don't think it fit in the drive thru at Starbucks...

It would make its own drive-thru!

well that's the thing... a vehicle with a larger gcvwr than 26,000lbs requires a B class drivers liscense to be opperated... thus GMs decission to uder rate the silverados and medium duty vehicles...
