July 22, 200718 yr Heh ... I guess it was only a matter of time ... SPAM Emails coming to one's cell phone. I received my first such, in the form of a text message, a few weeks ago. But, today, I received 2 of them within an hour ... about 2 hours after a friend of mine received one on his cell phone while I was talking to him. Anyone else receive such text messages on cell phones? July 23, 200718 yr Tip to all, never text in response to any advertisement. You will get spam up the wazoo, and you can't get it to stop. All they're doing when you text "JOKE to 73737" or "SLUT to 304" or enter some contest thru texting is giving away your handle and permitting them to spam you forever until you change your number. So act like Bo Jackson after surgery and don't do it!
July 23, 200718 yr I don't recall getting pure spam, but I do get messages from Verizon occasionally trying to get me to upgrade my plan...
July 23, 200718 yr I don't recall getting pure spam, but I do get messages from Verizon occasionally trying to get me to upgrade my plan... Those can actually be helpful, but outright spam I'd e pissed about. (knock on particle board)
July 23, 200718 yr Spam text messages... A. Annoyingly alert you for what is basically a waste of data. B. Cost you money under most plans. I'd be bothered by A, but especially irate about B.
July 23, 200718 yr Speaking of texting, for some reason a couple of weeks ago I got a series of messages like 'Ill pick up the dry cleaning' 'see you at 6', 'dinner @ Venice?'... I looked closely at them and realized they were from my former manager...he was texting his wife and sent them to me instead. Maybe her phone # is similar to mine (I know they use Verizon also). July 23, 200718 yr Dinner at Venice? Do you live in L.A. now? Nah..it's an Italian restaurant in Greenwood Village (Denver suburb).
July 24, 200718 yr Author Tip to all, never text in response to any advertisement. *nods* Absolutely! In fact, I deleted all of the ones I've gotten right away.... And, for the record ... I have Cingular/AT&T. The 3 messages that I noted above have been from 3 different sources. One was a weird Email address ... the other 2 were AOL addresses. Each text message mentioned a specific website.... July 26, 200718 yr Try talking to your service provider. Usually these messages are sent via the web, and they should have a function to block messages sent from the web.
