An old friend of mine wants me to come out there and do a new landscape for him. I'm actually considering doing it.

The thing is, though, everything is different so I need to give myself a crash course in California landscaping befoe I can even determine if it is doable.

So, I could use any information and or pics anyone local to that area could provide.

I need some local supplier connections too.

Is there a web site for ASLA, or a Northern California chapter of it, that could give some supplier references via links? Or other related sites with a link to the area?

Also, keep in mind, hanging out in that area is VERY expensive and San Jose is quite ho-hum compared to the city of San Francisco.

Hanging out isn't the main focus, if I do this. I would have to hussle and get back home as fast as possible.

I never heard of that either! I expect it depends on how far you are getting into it. Major plumbing would require permits, but even these can be owner obtained. The only thing I would warn you is not to bring any plants into the state with you. Maybe your buddy can check locally about the permits?

Yeah, I don't see this being a problem (I'm just helping out a friend, after all).

No worries on the plants, I would only use local stuff anyway.

I would suggest an emergency rattlesnake kit!

I doubt that snakes will be an issue, this is a densely developed residential area with small lots.

Well if your not afraid of snakes, perhaps you should be afraid of Mountain Lions as they are attacking people in good old suburbia more and more it seems, although you are in your 40's now so you aren't as tender as you once were. So you may be safe now.
