August 6, 200718 yr All of these features/options were offered on the car in question: - All aluminum (block & heads) V8 - Neither traditional BOF or typical Unibody construction - Only offered in hardtop & convertible - Four wheel disk brakes - Functional rear decklid spoiler & chin diffuser - Liquid traction control - Hideaway headlights - Headlight washers
August 6, 200718 yr Author It was available on this ONE model year car.... This might be a good one, I was just vague enough to stump most of you I think.
August 6, 200718 yr The 1969 Camaro had a liquid traction option. Not sure about the rest though. I was thinking more of the C2 Corvettes. They had all the criteria other than the liquid traction control option from my understanding.
August 7, 200718 yr 'Liquid traction control' ? Que es esto? Never heard this term...even an exact phrase google didn't turn it up.. Edited August 7, 200718 yr by moltar
August 7, 200718 yr Author It's NOT the Ferrari 348, it came TWO decades before, I never said all the previous answers were correct?!
August 7, 200718 yr Hmmm..overall, the description would fit a C3 Corvette w/ an aluminum big block... but, they were BOF (glassfibre body, perimeter frame). Still have no idea what 'liquid traction control' is...
August 7, 200718 yr Only available as a COPO not an RPO and I think almost all were base cars without many options. I doubt that any were equipped the way you specified 68, but if one exists I'd like to have it. :AH-HA_wink:
August 7, 200718 yr All of these features/options were offered on the car in question: The '69 Camaro - All aluminum (block & heads) V8 The ZL-1 427 big block, COPO only, only a handful built - Neither traditional BOF or typical Unibody construction The car was built with a detachable front subframe, and a frame-rail reinforced unibody from the cowl back - Only offered in hardtop & convertible check - Four wheel disk brakes optional - Functional rear decklid spoiler & chin diffuser Z-28,SS,RS - Liquid traction control ( Liquid Tire Chain) rare option: aerosol can-type dispenser mounted inside trunk at wheelwells - Hideaway headlights RS package - Headlight washers new one on me
August 7, 200718 yr Author You got it Camino, WildManJoe got it too but double guessed himself. And you're absolutely correct, it is HIGHLY improbable that any cars left the factory with all those options in place, BUT all those were features/options of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. They only made 69 ZL1s (aluminum block/heads 427 COPOs) and there was only a couple of RS ZL1s, but if any of those had the liquid tire chain I don't know and I have no way of finding out. I would imagine more than a few ZL1s got the four-wheel disk brakes.
August 7, 200718 yr Do any cars with the liquid tire chain option survive today? Does it (did it) actually work?
August 7, 200718 yr Do any cars with the liquid tire chain option survive today? Does it (did it) actually work? Yes. And sort of. It was a canister of something like antifreeze or ice melt which sprayed through a tube at the rear wheels (or just the one wheel, I can't remember). I doubt that it was too effective, but I could be wrong.
August 7, 200718 yr Found this: V75 Liquid Tire "Chain" - An option on '69 Camaros that provided a dispenser with nozzles located in the rear tire wheel wells that would spray a special traction-enhancing liquid on the rear tires to help traction on snow and ice. Quite rare.
August 8, 200718 yr Whoa... I wonder how many Chevy dealers had pissed off customers after they undercoated shut the nozzles? Back in those days, it was part of the dealing process to throw out that old standby "throw in undercoating, and you've got a deal" demand at the 11th hour.
Probably at least half.
August 8, 200718 yr Author Yeah, I have that photo in a couple of my books but those are all inaccessible to me right now, at the ex's house ho will not even let me see my daughter nevermid my crap. I tried to google it but gave up after like 90sec. (Thanks for posting it Camino) The 1969 Camaro is one amazing vehicle, it was the ONLY Camaro bodystye to last only one model year and yet it was in production for over a year and a half.... some of the options were amazing, like the headlight washers & 4-wheel disks.
August 12, 200718 yr I brought up liquid tire chains to my Chevy buddies years ago at the races (before the internet) and they all thought I was lying! LOL Then the conversation quickly turned to "we could fill it with bleach for burnouts....."
August 13, 200718 yr I brought up liquid tire chains to my Chevy buddies years ago at the races (before the internet) and they all thought I was lying! LOL Then the conversation quickly turned to "we could fill it with bleach for burnouts....." That thought immediately crossed my mind as well!
