62.8 mpg clean-diesel Accord in U.S. by 2010

Featured Replies

Honda expects to bring the clean-diesel car to the U.S. by 2010. It gets 62.8 miles a gallon on the highway, but otherwise looks and feels like a regular Accord. At that mileage level, the car is about as "clean" as a new Toyota Prius. But if you run it on biodiesel, a form of diesel made from vegetable oil or animal fat, it would be even cleaner than a Prius (Priuses get 60 in the city).

The advantage of diesel cars, however, is that they pack a lot of power.

The car shown for the testbed is actually a TSX/Euro Accord, which weighs a tad less than our American (fatty) Accord, but never-the-less, it is great mileage.

Fixed.

So if the Prius actually gets 45 mpg while advertized at 60 mpg then the 62.8 mpg diesel will get 47.8 mpg! Theres more then one way to TRANSLATE JAPANESE to ENGLISH!!

Not if they used the 2008 standards when measuring the 62.8mpg. The Prius can no longer advertise 60mpg as of 2008.

Even if both numbers were from 2007 EPA ratings, the hybrid is likely to lose more than a diesel when going to real world figures.
