lol @ Crown Vic. Time to go home, grandpa. I'd love to see how an Impala SS would've done, too.

Not surprisingly, the 5.7L Magnum leaves the others in the dust.

Not really a fair competition, though. Again, I'd like to see an SS vs. a Hemi.

As much as I like to make fun of Dodge, I would still take a Hemi Charger over an Impala SS. At least until the Zeta Impala comes out.

Where are the Fuel economy tests?

Impala 3.9 - 18/28

Magnum 5.7 - 15/23

Crown Vic - 15/23

Tahoe 5.3 2WD - 14/20

Impala 3.9 E85 - 13/20

Suburban 6.0 2WD - 12/17

Tahoe 5.3 2WD E85 - 11/15

A hybrid police car would be ideal, given the amount of time cops idle their engines waiting for speeders...

Between purchase cost and fuel economy I see why the Impala is showing up in so many places for patrol cars.

LOL @ Crown Vic?

No, not quite... LOL @ all the unibody cars in this test.

Time and time again unibody cars have not held up

to the $hitstorm, beat-fest, abuse-galore-spectacular

that is modern police duty.

Already Mass State Troopers are complaining about

the Charger's lack of durability when abused in police

duty, subjected to the same no-holds barred driving

that the ancient, "dinosaur" Ford Crown Victoria has

been dealing with for three decades.

They still suck in the powertrain department. No question about it, though it really doesn't matter.

There is a place for the Crown Vic, but when you need to chase down a suspect or get to the scene of a crime or accident or what have you, the Charger/Magnum are the way to go.

Oh, and LOL @ the Crown Vic's piss-poor fuel economy. The LX has the same ratings with far more power.

I drove a 1994 under cover Mercury Grand Marquis cop car and a 2001 Grand Marquis regular production GS model, both I found to be nice cars. I almost bought a Grand Marquis when looking around last time, but bought the Aurora because I like the sporty feel. From personal experiance I must say the old full size Mercury/Ford/Lincoln models are about as tough as a car gets. Whats so wrong with people wanting a car that has never let them down?
