European Accord (US TSX) Spied

Caught in the USA

What better place to develop the next (eighth) generation European Accord than in the USA, far away from prying European eyes. Maybe Honda has to rethink their strategy because our spyphotographers managed to snap some quality shots early this morning close to Honda's US facilities.

The current Euro Accord had a facelift for its 2006 model year when it received its first dose of the Sports 4 Concept styling, making it practically generation 7,5. Unclear is how much of the recently revealed Honda Accord Tourer Concept styling will make it to the eighth generation Accord.

The next gen Accord base model will probably be powered by an improved 2.4 liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 20 to 30 hp more than the current (166 hp) engine, have front wheel drive and with either a six-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The sportier Type-S should also make it to the line-up with around 260 hp coming from an up-tuned 2.3 liter turbocharged engine also used in the RDX. The Type-S is expected to have a six-speed auto/manual DSG gearbox and Honda's Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.

The Honda Accord will also make it Stateside as the slightly modified Acura TSX (which we spotted a few months ago as a heavily camouflaged prototype). The 2008 Honda Accord will also be featured with a diesel in Europe and with current oil prices the way they are it is very well possible that the TSX will get the same engine.

Hard to tell much because of the camo...

Kinda looks like a Civic from the front which is probably not a good thing. At least it doesn't suffer from the "backed into a wall - ugly ass" syndrome that seems to be rampant these days.

The rear actually looks pretty conservative.

The Type-S version should be exciting. 260 hp turbocharged engine, six-speed DSG, and SUAIHICESCAWD. Kinda like the luxury version of the Evo or WRX.

From what I can see, it appears much larger and it sort of resembles the RL. Hard to tell because of all the camo though.

yuck. some want to spend big bucks to visibly display that have a CR subscription

What the hell are you talking about? "YUCK"??? This thing is so heavily camo ed that I can't even tell anything. "Yup, it's a Honda car, Must be and Will be ugly"

:bs:

Judging by the greenhouse and overall shape, this looks very similar to the current TSX. Has the TSX been reworked less than the upcoming TL?

US TSX is said to get that powertrain. If it does not increase in weight like the Accord did, they may have a winner.

Heavily camo'ed? Hardly. Tape on the front end and tail lights...that's about it. 75% of the sheet metal is right there.

You want heavy camo? THIS is heavy camo:

This car is not nearly as camo'd as the TL spy shots. It's probably much closer to production. Either that or, it's a mule still using the old TSX body as a base with lots of modifications (which does not seem to be the case). There are some bulges on the front bumper and it looks a bit oddly shaped, which is probably due to the padding they've used. Or maybe there's some sensors under there. Who knows.

  • 3 months later...

From what I can see (not much) it looks like a '97 Buick Regal GS

Can't really tell from the pics it's a Honda/Acura...looks generic... the front is almost Mazda-ish.

  • 2 weeks later...

auto news says TSX is to be first US Honda with diesel.

i am not a subscriber so I can't post it, it was on their front page today.........
