SEMA 2007 Preview: Dodge Avenger StormTrooper

The car you see pictured here is what happens when a self-professed Star Wars geek gets to have his way with the latest Dodge mid-sized sedan. While the stock Dodge Avenger looks awkward from some angles, sits a little tall, and is generally unexciting visually, the Avenger StormTrooper largely eliminates those problems. Under the hood, the StormTrooper gets the 4.0L V-6 from the Pacifica crossover while the whole body is lowered over the twenty-inch tires. The white bodywork and dark tinted headlight covers and windows were inspired by the armor of the soldiers in George Lucas' movies. A set of four buckets from a Charger SRT8 adorned in alcantara suede adorn the front and back rows and a pair of mobile PCs provide entertainment for the driver and passengers. The front unit is tied into the powertrain control allowing the driver to tune the engine, while the rear unit allows passengers to play games, watch movies, or surf the net.

They should have also done a Darth Vader edition!!

We have a black Avenger locally that looks pretty danged nice, big wheels, sits low. Clean looking car.

That grill only improves the looks immensely. I also agree with CMG. They need to fix the rear door and greenhouse. It might actually be a decent looking car then.

The rear door seems to be where it "tries too hard". Looks like a Charger inspired concoction of some sort, it would look a heckuva lot cleaner without it IMO.

I actually really like this...and yes that includes the angels eyes. The new front end looks great as does the rear end treatment. The interior looks nice too. The only thing I don't really like is the wheel design.

If I owned an Avenger, and someone made this kit available, I'd snap it up in a second.

OMG, geeky, yeah. I'm a fan of the Avenger. I like most of what has been done here... perhaps especially the 4.0L engine transplant.

This is a hint to Chrysler to put the 4.0 in there.

But Yeah...I'd like to see the entire thing be made available for production as a special edition.

I could do without the white rims.

I agree..while I don't hate the tail lights...i prefer the originals I think, and some better wheels. That picture is indeed badass.

I like all the exterior modifications except for the rear wing spoiler (I always think that this looks really stupid on front wheel drive sedans) and the wheels. The interior is o.k. I was never really impressed with the original interior design, so the interior upgrades don't impress me that much either.

I like the overall exterior design of the Avenger. It looks 100% better than its Chrysler Sebring counterpart. I agree with someone else who stated that the design would work better on a longer wheelbase (it appeared on a different forum topic). The exterior modifications on this show car make it look even better. Now if they could only give the interior a redesign, this wouldn't be a bad car.

Sounds like you are under the misconception that a spoiler is non-functional on a FWD car. The general idea people seem to have is that a spoiler is there to give downforce on the driving wheels on a RWD car to help it accelerate. Problem with that is since a spoiler depends on air movement for its function, it's worthless from a stop, and not very functional at low speeds where traction is an issue. A spoiler's real function is to provide downforce on the rear wheels at higher speeds, keeping the rear wheels planted during handling maneuvers - something that is functional on any car, regardless where the driving wheels are.

That said, I still agree that spoilers are silly on many cars, because

A) they're designed to look "cool", not provide downforce

B) they look silly, not "cool"

This spoiler might actually be functional, and at least is not huge & uber tacky. Personally, I kinda like it.

Regardless of how functional they may be, I still think they ruin the lines of the car.

Sorry, that car isn't nearly as menacing as the Impala SS was.

I like the CTS-V better as the "Vader car" personally. Both fit the bill well, though. I guess the CTS-V feels more spacey/techy, and thus feels like a better fit to me.

Hmm, Chrysler did it again. The '06 SEMA Sebring looked way better than the production model. Now the SEMA Avenger looks way better.

I'd say it looked decent in SEMA guise, but I agree...it needs a complete makeover.
