HELP! Trying to Buy New Rims

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I was looking to buy some cheapy stealies for my 2001 Saab 9-5 for winter tires. Now I change from summer to winter tires on the same rim, incurring a rebalancing and mounting fee each time. This year I decided to buy some dedicated wheels for the winter tires, but I have had trouble finding reliable information about them.

My car (according to TireRack.com) has 16x6.5" wheels, but the key is the bolt pattern: 5-110. I was looking at buying steel rims off a Volvo on Craigslist, but (again according to TireRack) the bolt pattern is 5-108. The question is this: can these wheels be installed on my car? Thanks!

I don't think I'd try that. An exact fit is the only way I'd be comfortable driving the car.

You also should make sure that the two wheels have similar offset. Usually this says somewhere on the inside of the wheel (for instance for an offset of 40mm it would say something like "ET40." I know some GTO owners have done 5 x 120.65 for the bolt pattern instead of 5 x 120, but I think 2mm might be pushing it.

Tirerack's wheels for the 9-5 are anywhere from 35-42mm offset, but the rims are not all the 6.5" width, so I'm not sure if your 6.5" wheels would have the same offset.

I do not believe that you can get 2mm out of that. You're probably going to have to get a lot closer than that.
