Weird whiny sound in my truck's audio system.

Featured Replies

For the past while, whenever I accelerate, a weird whine goes through my trucks' speakers. The more I accelerate, the louder it gets, and sometimes it can be heard during cruising speed.

I'm not too smart on car-audio, so I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to what's causing it, and how I can go about fixing it. The truck is a 1990 GMC Sierra, and the sound system is all stock, save for an Audiovox CD changer that was installed back in the 90's, and hasn't been used in years.

Thanks. :)

A friend of mine had this with a Mazda MX-6. For him, it was a minor 'leak' between the car's alternator system (which is tied to engine RPMs) and the wires of the stereo. The little bit of electricity coming from the alternator came out as a whine that matched the engine noise.

There is probably a condenser somewhere around the alternator that's burned out and its allowing noise to come through.

Agreed. That happened to a co-worker's F150...
