Matsushita unveils 150-inch plasma TV

Featured Replies

LAS VEGAS - Japanese electronics conglomerate Matsu$h!a Electric Industrial on Monday introduced a 150-inch plasma television, which it says is the world's biggest.

The new TV boasts four times better resolution than full high-definition 1080p picture quality and offers a screen the size of nine 50-inch plasma televisions. It was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by Toshihiro Sakamoto, president of Panasonic AVC Networks.

Matsu$h!a's new screen, at 12-1/2 feet when measured diagonally, tops the Panasonic brand maker's 103-inch plasma TV released last year. The 103-inch television has sold 3,000 units over the last year, Matsu$h!a said.

It will become available in 2009 at an undisclosed price, mainly for use as billboards.

Matsu$h!a, the world's largest consumer electronics maker, also partnered with U.S. cable provider Comcast to develop a new set-top box that detaches from its docking station to work as a portable video player to show recorded TV programs.

The portable DVR/DVD player, which comes with a 60-gigabyte of recording storage and a docking station, will be available starting in early 2009.

This will be great for those close-up porn shots.

Cool... the nicest TV I've so far seen is my buddy Steve's Sony Qualia 70-inch (a now discontinued model)..just incredible. This is more than twice the size...can't imagine one that big..would have to have a lot of space for it.

How much would this cost?

No pricing info released, but 'reports have put the 150-inch version in the $100,000 range' according to another article.

the part they're missing is: it's only a 220V tv and it's a 2kx4k that's 4x the resolution of 1080P.

Welcome to the latest edition of "My ____ is Bigger Than Your ____".

There's just no need for a TV that big. And you just know some idiot is going to buy one, stuff it into his 12'x15' living room, and burn out his retinas in five years from sitting well within the proper viewing boundary.

WOW, I want two!

I'm wondering how much amplication and speakers I would need with one of these...serious wattage, 7.1, maybe some MacIntosh or Marantz gear.. if I had something this big, I'd be really interested in getting great audio to go with the picture.. (since my favorite use of HDTVs is concert DVDs, more than sports or movies)....

I wonder how many AAA batteries it would take to power that thing? :smilewide:

It would probably need its own Honda generator.

I don't want my tv sounding like it's farting every time I tap the remote.

That's just inane. Its too big. WAY too big.

I can't even imagine ever wanting a television that big.

Bigger is better. That's what Satty's mom said.

I rocked her world.

Seriously heat produced by this thing will need its own airconditioning system.

Yeah, D*ck the size of a human being.

i wonder if its like Hiroshima like when you turn it on your shadow gets burned into the wall.

I imagine this would be great if you wanted to start up a drive in movie theater...in your backyard!!!

I thought you couldnt play video games on a plasma screen. Do plasmas have pixles? I thought that was LCD ones that had this problem though so far my 32" Vizio has been good.
