January 30, 200818 yr I'm home today because my 2 y-o old (Justin) has pink eye, an ear infection and swollen glands (sore throat). No way he's going to day care!!! Anyway, we watched CARS for the umpteenth time today, and each time I watch it I try to look at what cars have made it into the movie. Here's what I've observed and found through some brief Internet searching: Lightning McQueen: modified Ford GT40 Cruisin McQueen: repainted in the colors of the Corvette from the TV seires "Route 66" Ramone: 1959 Chevrolet Impala Luigi: 1959 Fiat 500 Guido: ISO Isetta Doc Hudson: 1951 Hudson Hornet Sheriff: 1949 Mercury Fillmore: '60s VW Microbus Sarge: 1945 Ford GPW or a Willys Jeep Sally: 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Lizzie: 1923 Ford Model T Stanley: Stanley Steamer Flo: Not any one particular concept, but shares elements of the 1951 Buick LeSabre, the 1951 Buick XP-300 and the 1957 Chrysler Dart Boost: 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse Wingo: 2000 Nissan Silvia DJ: 2004 Scion xB Snot Rod: 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Chick Hicks: 1980s Buick Regal/Grand National The King: 1970 Plymouth Superbird Mrs. The King: 1974 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon Darrell Cartrip: 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo race car Bob Cutlass: Oldsmobile Aurora Mia & Tia (twins): first generation Mazda Miata Mack: '70s or '80s MACK Superliner Rusty: 1964 Dodge A100 Dusty: 1963 Dodge Dart Tex: 1975 Cadillac Coupe De Ville Red: Peter Pirsch Fire Truck TJ Hummer: Hummer H1 SUV Sven "The Governator": Hummer H1 Mater: 1951 International Harvester L-170/mid-'50s GM Truck (Chevy or GMC) *IMDB.com states that Mater is an IH; however, I think he looks more like a '55-'57 Chevy (or GMC) truck. Here's a picture of the IH they state he looks like and you can judge for yourself: Anyone else that's watched the movie several times now () see anything else, or have corrections to my list above?
January 30, 200818 yr Michael Schumacher as an F430, surrounded by Maserati Quattroporte body guards? Gotta love Luigi the most, though...
January 30, 200818 yr Doc. Hudson, Ramone & Sheriff are the three coolest. And BTW, Sheriff is a '49 Merc & Mater is most certainly a '55 Chevy truck!
January 30, 200818 yr mater is def not an IH - headlights and body lines are all wrong. Chevy looks much closer.
January 30, 200818 yr Lizzie: Ford Model T? Lizzie was indeed a Model T, affectionately known as the Tin Lizzie. And her deceased husband? Stanley, as in the long-since-defunct Stanley Steamer. It's these little things that make watching Pixar films such a delight. Edited January 30, 200818 yr by Enzora
January 30, 200818 yr Chick Hicks is a Grand National? Stanley, Lizzie's dead husband is a Stanley Steamer?
January 30, 200818 yr Author Thanks Oldsmoboi for the Wikipedia link. I didn't think to check there. *Updated the list with info from the Wikipedia page.
January 30, 200818 yr found a picture of a 51 IH L-170 for better comparison. I still say it looks more like the Chevy Edited January 30, 200818 yr by PurdueGuy
January 30, 200818 yr CARS is such a cool movie. The announcer at the beginning describing the race is named Bob Cutlass. You have to watch the special features section too as the director talks about when he was a kid his father worked at a Chevy dealership and that's what got him interested in cars.
February 1, 200818 yr *grins* I love "Cars" ... and have seen it a few times myself. Cool list, GMT! Heh ... I've even started collecting some of the model cars.... I, of course, have the '77 Monte Carlo ... along with Doc Hudson (Hudson Hornet), King, Mater, Sally and others: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/collection...7619r8_jpg.html (The collection has grown since I took that pic, btw).
