I thought I was seeing a rash of 1st gen Priuses out there, but the I realized that Nissan recycled Toyota's lack of style and created the Versa Sedan. I don't even think this is a debatable point, these two look EXACTLY the same from the rear. The taillights look interchangeable. I hate them both.

True, but the Versa is a much cleaner and more balanced design.

The Versa is not much less hideous than the Pr-iss.

This is one area where the Aveo impresses me. Chevy has managed to design a tiny little sedan that actually looks good...!

Why can't Nissan (and Suzuki with it's similarly-ghastly SX4 sedan) do the same?

Good perhaps, but very bland....I think if the Verve sedan makes it to production with little changes it will be the best looking small sedan on the market.

It never occurred to me the Versa sedan and '97 Prius were somewhat alike, but I did think the new Impreza sedan shares an uncanny resemblance to the Versa the moment I saw the Subaru. It must be the upright profile..

Most of the newer hatchbacks are optimized for space (higher roof, larger cabin, smaller hood), so styling often becomes weird when converted to a notchback.

The Aveo looks pretty good, I think because of the lower roofline... its greenhouse reminds me of the '98-04 Jetta.

I fail to see what's so ghastly about it. Besides.. It's not really in the same size class. Compact vs. subcompact.
