Dodge Nitro SRT8?!

Featured Replies

Head over to Jalopnik for some spy photos of a Nitro SRT8.

Chrysler can't seriously be thinking of bringing an SRT8-badged Dodge Nitro to market, can they? Well, if this latest batch of spy photos from the spy shooters at KGP are right, then they are. But they can't be! Seriously. It's inconceivable. We don't care where they found this manufacturer-plated madness (right outside of the Firehouse in downtown Detroit) or what it has slapped on the back (an SRT8 badge), but it's hard to argue with photographic evidence. We'll assume it's an engineer having a little bit of fun or perhaps another media outlet playing around with the cameras. Because seriously -- it's got to be that. The other option? It's just too horrible to imagine. Full spy report from KGP after the jump.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the idea is so stupid?? I mean, as enthusiasts, people should like a V8 in anything. While it might not make much sense for someone trying to save money on gas, what about people that don't care about gas prices, and want a high horsepower small-ish SUV? The Nitro could use a little more power to live up to the name, even though the 4.0L is more then enough to move it.

Maybe it would only get the the new 300 HP 4.7L V8, instead of the 425 HP 6.1L, and actually be affordable? That would be cool....along with upgraded interior materials!

It makes as much sense as the G55 AMG.. which to say isn't much.

The 6.1 won't fit in the engine bay.

Considering there is no camo, no new front or rear fascia, no new exhausts, and the wheels look OEM...I think it's just a Nitro with a SRT8 badge and aftermarket wheels on it.

It looks to me like one of the eleven people that bought the Nitro decided to tack on SRT-8 badges. There is little else to suggest this is actually a Nitro SRT-8 mule.
