Chrysler plans two-week July shutdown

DETROIT (Reuters) - Chrysler LLC said on Thursday it would shut all but its most essential operations worldwide for two weeks in July, a first for the struggling No. 3 U.S. automaker as it attempts to cut costs and preserve cash.

...

They aren't selling cars...no wonder with the price of fuel. Viper, 300C, Charger, the discontinued Magnum, the Jeep Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee, the trucks..all cool vehicles...with an average fuel economy of about 14 mpg if one is lucky.

Chrysler needs to replace the lackluster Caliber/Sebring/Avenger/et all with world class product. Until they do they will keep loosing customers and market share.

They need to bring in the guys that did the Intrepid/Concorde and give them free reign in the design studio...

Chris

Not to worry many car companies force their UAW/CAW employees to take vacation during June/July time frame, for model changeover, ETC, even GM, but Chrysler is forcing their White Collar workers to do it as well, no sense in them being there anyway with nothing to do.

The question is, who will own them when they re-open.

I was thinking earlier how interesting it'd be if, even after Ghosn said Renault-Nissan is not interested in Chrysler, Jeep was spun-off and sold to Renault-Nissan.

When I was at GM, us "white-collar" guys (at least at Buick) were required to take the shutdown too.......has GM reversed from that?

funny how everyone that thought RWD was the big end all, RWD and Hemi focus may be the thing that sidetracked Chrysler and will ultimately kill it.

meanwhile, people scoop up fwd cars. like the old intrepid was.

I have never taken shutdown leave in my whole career with GM, even when I was assigned to an assembly plant, however the problem with that is, with the plant shutdown, the air conditioning was turned off even in the admin part of the plants. I can remember it being over 110 degrees inside the building and I was in cutoffs, t-shirt and sneakers, but work I did! :smilewide:

So that explains it. Going through heat like that day after day got to your mind and damaged it.
