March 31, 200817 yr This is the very first ad that is on the May 2008 issue of Car and Driver. It's really nothing special or fansy, but a usual Hyundai ad, but.... Also, the magazine has this, Hyundai did a public taste test(?), and came out with the grill winner.
March 31, 200817 yr I saw the Genesis in person at the Denver Auto Show on Saturday.. it looks ok, nothing really stands out, though...it's got a mix of Infiniti and BMW styling cues..
March 31, 200817 yr Author I saw one too at the NY Show, where they only brought one car for the turning display. I honestly don't like it. It's just too much of a copy, lacks any personality of its own.
March 31, 200817 yr I saw genisis at NYIAS. Not bad looking but like most Hundai stuff it's so derrivative. I wonder if they will well that sweet sounding engine to GM as the new northstar though since the UV8 got cancelled.
April 1, 200817 yr Wheels look like they were made with K'NEX. Other than that, the thing is completely invisible.
April 1, 200817 yr Saw it at my city's auto show today, and they had it in the plain ol' silver. Not bad. Not good either.
April 2, 200817 yr Oh, and officially; there's a new Worst Manufacturer-Sourced Photo King... I have about 5000 print ads in my collection, and this one visually is easily the worst out of all of them. It's not artsy, it doesn't make a point... it's just dismal.
April 3, 200817 yr they should have gone for something bold and indicating luxury. the message is wrong and the presentation is all wrong. the presentation should be flashier, more eye-catching and rich. this campaign is all wrong, just show the inherent value and don't compare it to a 60,000 car, this will never get the right image. people will see the inherent value if you show them the car. interesting and good choice that the picture focuses on the slick yet unoriginal profile instead of the front end. April 4, 200817 yr I would have much preferred the H grille, it's more tasteful. P.S. The Genesis Coupe looks very nice!

April 4, 200817 yr Disagree on the grille; the H grille is way too downmarket IMO. I agree on the grill....the one they went with is better...... This car will be interesting to follow. In no WAY will it ever make Hyundai a luxury-pretender......and no one will ever trade their BMWs or Mercedes-Benzs for the Genesis. But it will provide an attractive alternative in the marketplace....in that late-$20's to mid-30's price-range. I wonder where the true buyers will come from? Open-minded domestic consumers looking for something a bit different? Asian-car consumers looking for RWD? I bet you might get some cross-shopping from people looking for a loaded Accord EX-L V6.....and stumbling upon a RWD, V8 powered Hyundai with a killer warranty.....
April 4, 200817 yr So it occurred to me- where does the azeza figure in all this? Killed off? Does this step on it's toes or is the azeza a whole segment cheaper??
April 11, 200817 yr Author I heard the rumor that the base Genesis will start somewhere around 29K, while Azera starts at about 26K, so I guess they are not killing off that dreadful Azera afterall.
