August 22, 201213 yr That shade of GTO teal is one of my all time fav. GM colors....would be my vote!
August 22, 201213 yr Author I think some sort of teal, or a deep, dark green is what I want. To hell with this white stuff.
August 22, 201213 yr Author If I went with a red metallic exterior, this would be a fine donor. Hmmm... a fat block for the Camino? http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/3166624913.html
August 23, 201213 yr Author Yeah, but it's only a 2WD so no great loss there. I might feel a small twinge of guilt ripping it apart, but I'd still rip it apart.
August 23, 201213 yr That is gorgeous. You could also go with silver, charcoal, white, or black for the exterior, but I think you're right and dark metallic red would look best. The late 90s/early 00s G body Cadddies wore one of my favorite versions of dark red metallic:

August 23, 201213 yr Some options: I just love me this pickup truck! This is some style, wish we had new auto's with style like this. They just all are bland. Perfect example is the Equinox is a nice great CUV, but bland in the style department and blends in with everything else but does follow Chevy style of their product family. Then you move to the GMC Terrain. This is a love it or hate it affair and I have to say it is freaking awesome little CUV. I would want this as a Black ICE paint job, black chrome edition with a turbo V6 AWD. A Modern Typhoon edition. Yet everyone says it must change to better fit into the family profile. WHY WHY WHY, Why can we not have a family profile that still does give awesome style.
August 23, 201213 yr Author Some possible colors: LOVE the El Camino's shade of blue Yeah, I'm going to have to look that one up.
August 23, 201213 yr The dark orange (copper?) color on that phantom '55 El Camino is goregous... Edited August 23, 201213 yr by Cubical-aka-Moltar
August 23, 201213 yr Author The dark orange (copper?) color on that phantom '55 El Camino is goregous... I love it too, such a gorgeous machine in a gorgeous color.
August 23, 201213 yr So, what does your task list look like to complete the Mothertruck? Picking the paint scheme is interesting, but assuming you buy a donor, what needs to happen between donor acquisition to taking it to the paint booth?
August 23, 201213 yr Author So, what does your task list look like to complete the Mothertruck? Picking the paint scheme is interesting, but assuming you buy a donor, what needs to happen between donor acquisition to taking it to the paint booth? Not much. Just test-fitting the new panels, fixing one rust spot (tiny), and welding a bunch of small holes left by the emergency equipment. The bed is just bolted together, so I will unbolt all of the panels and have them stripped, and then put it back together with the new GM bedsides I have. Almost all of the work is simple nut and bolt stuff. The truck was not dented or rusted to begin with. I'll use the doors and front sheetmetal from the donor just because it will be easier and faster that way. The original panels and doors are all pretty good. I'll strip out the interior and windshield so everything can get painted, then put it all back together, the truck is already done mechanically.
August 23, 201213 yr Author Oh, and the paint scheme is important because the donor truck has to have a compatible interior color. That's why I'm talking color now.
August 24, 201213 yr Author Some possible colors: LOVE the El Camino's shade of blue OK, so I've researched the hell out of this one. Supposedly that Camino is painted in a "Corvette Dark Teal" which is a color I can't find. In 1969, GM supposedly offered a color called " Midnight Teal Metallic" that I can find no examples of. 1965 Chevelle "Tahitian Turquoise" is pretty close, as is 1967 Chevelle "Tahoe Turquoise". Those two are hard to tell apart from the pics I've seen. I remember seeing the '65 color, and memory says it has a lot of green in it. Both colors do, but the "65 looks more blue in the pics I've found while the '67 color looks more green in the pics. Those two colors are as close as I've gotten to the color of that Camino which is damn near perfect. If I go in this color direction, I'll be needing a tan or gray interior.
August 24, 201213 yr Author Yeah, I think teal is the winner. But that does make donor selection a bit more difficult. I think I want a grey, bucket seat/console interior, and that would mean my list of possible donors drops to one - the one I said was too nice to strip.
August 24, 201213 yr Author This '89 Suburban has the interior I'd like to replicate. It's also a very cool and subtle custom truck! http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/3155572224.html

Look at the 93-96 GMC Suburban line, My 94 has a beautiful Dark Teal paint job that GM did and I just love it. Yes the interior is a two tone gray and it just goes really well with this color.
August 24, 201213 yr This '89 Suburban has the interior I'd like to replicate. It's also a very cool and subtle custom truck! http://southjersey.c...3155572224.html That is a freakin amazing Suburban. I love it.
August 24, 201213 yr You'd have to call and see what color interior this one has ('86 Suburban): http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/3153484295.html I think this one has a blue or gray interior: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/3198682035.html This '87 Suburban has a gray interior, just don't know the condition: http://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/3223222156.html This '88 Suburban should have the tan interior: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/3219280591.html This one is tan, but is the basic interior: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/3221653309.html Here's one with a gray interior, that you can get for $1,450 w/o motor & trans: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/3173192795.html '89 Suburban - parts only - gray interior: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/3137170686.html '90 2WD Suburban. likely with a blue interior: http://reading.craigslist.org/cto/3173077885.html '91 Suburban (basic), ad states tan interior: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/3172445331.html
August 24, 201213 yr So going back to exterior paint choices, I really like a dark navy blue with a white center and roof option. Don't focus on the tan color shown here (and forget the fact that this is the previous gneration - rounded - body style) but pay attention to the white colored areas: Now picture this one with a darker blue with the white in the center and adding the silver lower trim:
August 24, 201213 yr Restored externally & interior-wise to look like a '88 Chevy K30 3+3 long bed pickup with those awesome AR rims and painted as I described above.... I may be tempted to sell a kidney
August 24, 201213 yr Author I think you are more excited by this than I am , Roger! Have to run, but I'll check all of those listings when I get home. No worries, I'll keep you up to date.
August 25, 201213 yr Author Seen all of those 'Burbans except the brown one and the dually. The dually might be a contender. I think two-tone is out at this point. I'm pretty much set on a grey interior and dark teal paint.
August 25, 201213 yr I think you are more excited by this than I am , Roger! More than likely, it seems!! I have no money for a project of my own, no money to buy a new Sierra to play with, so I'll live through your "Mothertruck" adventures Honestly, if I had a winter indoor storage place PLUS the cash to buy this from you, I would do so in a heartbeat (then I could tell you exactly how I'd want it ). I think when it's all done this is going to be one awesome Chevy Truck. It's great to see a truck guy building such a capable truck. Too bad you won;t have it done before the AACA Fall Meet in Hershey (October), as that is one great marketplace to sell it at (and maximize your profit intake). I look forward to the build up of this truck - be sure to document in pictures like you did with the Tahoe fix.
August 25, 201213 yr Author Doing the documentation is a given, you can count on that. This project will either get underway soon, or be delayed for a time depending on what luck I have in finding a new plow truck. I'm still holding out a small hope for that happening. If I find the right plow truck, then this will take a backseat until I sell the Tahoe and the ROPOS.
August 25, 201213 yr Good luck to you on both counts sir. I am pretty well satisfied with my fleet right now.
August 25, 201213 yr Author I am really quite happy with the Tahoe right now, but I need to move things forward, so it will have to go if I find the right truck to replace it as a daily driver as well as replacing the ROPOS. I want all of my projects either finished or gone ASAP. Except the Camino, that one I don't mind taking some time with.
August 27, 201213 yr Tiny picture, but here's another two-tone combo you could consider: Though I know you said no two-tone...
August 27, 201213 yr Some interesting detailing on that blue and white truck. Yeah, but I would have preferred the center bar of the grille being painted blue instead of some aftermarket chrome being placed there.
August 27, 201213 yr Author I'd like to see a closeup of some of that. The marker lights are interesting, it seems that he chromed the headlight buckets at least partially, and deleted the roof marker lights.
August 27, 201213 yr I like the dark blue & white of this '85 K10 Silverado: http://cnj.craigslist.org/ctd/3232820338.html I personally like the roof clearance lights on all full-size trucks, though I think legally they're only needed on dually trucks. It's really your choice to keep them or not. As for the blue one pictured above, it looks as if the grille and headlight buckets have been chromed. I like that look over the stock light gray plastic, but I would still paint the center bar body color as that's how it was done from the factory.
August 27, 201213 yr Author Blue and white are a good combo, one I'd go with if I were doing two-tone. Not really a fan of the clearance lights, but I won't be removing them from Mothertruck.
August 28, 201213 yr I like that blue and white truck, though I'd skip the riser hood and hood stripes.
August 28, 201213 yr Author I don't have plans for anything but a stock hood without stripes, but I might modify the induction under the hood.
August 28, 201213 yr That blue and white 85 is stunning, but I couldn't afford to pay 18K for it... NEAT TRUCK>>>>>
August 31, 201213 yr Here's another '90 GMC Suburban for sale that has the tan interior: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/3231892968.html
