April 9, 200817 yr Click here for a Wall Street Journal story on Detroit wanting to export US made models, taking advantage of the weak US dollar. Here's the interesting bit: Later this year, GM will begin shipping the Buick Enclave, a seven-passenger crossover sport-utility vehicle made in Lansing, Mich., to China, where the Buick brand is a big seller. GM hopes eventually to export as many as 25,000 Enclaves a year to China, said Dee Allen, a GM spokesman. GM is making plans to sell the Chevrolet Malibu, a sedan made in Kansas and Michigan, and possibly other U.S.-made passenger cars in Brazil and other Latin American markets, GM executives have said. April 10, 200817 yr Just make sure they have enough to supply them here. Other than that I have no problem with that. Lets get 300,000 Malibus in America first eh? And also get dealers enough Enclaves they are still flying off the lot. I talked to my little Chevy, Buick, Pontiac Dealer and he said everyone he gets in he sells. With-in a week.
April 10, 200817 yr That is very interesting. The last time I was in Brazil I saw a lot of Ford Fusions down there. It would be interesting to see the Malibu and the Fusion fight head to head there for market share. It has been an amazing few years. The American dollar used to be 3:1 for the Brazilian Real, but now its 1.68. Of course, visiting Brazil is getting more expensive.
April 10, 200817 yr Given what the republicans have done to our economy, doing anything is going to get a lot harder... But yeah, I'd like to see the BU' exported. Fusion in Brazil? Interesting. Chris
April 10, 200817 yr Author Fusion in Brazil? Interesting. Yeah: 4-Cyl, 5-sp auto Fusion Brazil website (Portuguese): https://www.ford.com.br/sr_fusion_default.asp Edited April 10, 200817 yr by ZL-1
April 10, 200817 yr Interesting..I didn't realize the NA Fusion was sold in SA. (Isn't the Euro Fusion MPV sold in SA in some countries also?)
April 11, 200817 yr Author Yes, why is this bit in the Chevy Trucks section? Because I was distracted. Can a Mod move this to the Chevy Cars section, please? EDIT - thanks for moving the topic Edited April 11, 200817 yr by ZL-1
April 13, 200817 yr Given what the republicans have done to our economy, doing anything is going to get a lot harder... But yeah, I'd like to see the BU' exported. Fusion in Brazil? Interesting. Chris Don't forget Oil was $50 a barrel when the Dems took back Congress, not to mention there was no recession talk in 2006. The Republicans run us off the road and the Democrats run us into the tree. Whom can you really blame but the electorate? GM has weathered far worse economic conditions. The worst thing that could happen now is a major tax hike and /or a trade war set off by high tariffs set by our Congress. Clearly, GM is heading in the right direction, hopefully it will not be in vain due to the political whim of idiots. Edited April 13, 200817 yr by carman21
April 14, 200817 yr Gents, can we please keep the boards to car jabber? The political talk is kinda disgusting, especially when there are cracks made that really aren't backed by fact...I come here to read up on GM, not to read on how some people are devoid of correct information in political institutions. Spanks

The political talk is kinda disgusting, especially when there are cracks made that really aren't backed by fact...I come here to read up on GM, not to read on how some people are devoid of correct information in political institutions. Spanks Sorry, I couldn't help it. I just hate when people take totally unnecessary jabs at any political party or ideology. Most Americans should be happy that we are actually exporting cars made in America instead of importing them. Well, I hope you find forums less "disgusting" in the future. The good news is that when the Malibu becomes a global car, the Malibu will bring in more revenue that will in time lead to better cars from GM.
April 15, 200817 yr Increasing exports also requires better access to overseas markets, especially in Asia where some countries lock out Detroit's vehicles while sending millions of cars to the U.S. Funny that no names were dropped there. As far as the politics... Dems, Reps... They're all the same and they've all helped to detroy our country. Edited April 15, 200817 yr by FUTURE_OF_GM
