I thought that back in 79 when the RK came out. Interesting connection. Brought back good memories.

I remember that ad from the mags back in the day..don't recall if I've ever seen one in person. Didn't GMC have a package like that also (El Diablo or something?).

I didn't realize that. I just thought it was a trim level I thought it had the same 305 that was optional in the base El Camino.

The SS could have either the 305 or the 350 back then and a manual was still available until the '82 model year.

Yes GMC had their version as well: The Caballero Diablo.

Right around this time Pontiac built a prototype version based on the Lemans, something tells me that the Royal Knight package may have been originally envisioned for that car.

Any pics of the Pontiac version on the net I wonder?

Someone posted pics of the Pontiac prototype on here a while back..looks like a '78 Grand Am front clip on an El Camino body...black, IIRC, and the GM Heritage Center Museum or something like that?

Yes.

It is in the Heritage Collection and Fly got a fuzzy pic of it when he was there.

Oh hell, that's pretty nice. I didn't know about the Pontiac version. Cool.

The ST has been a long time coming at Pontiac, don't you guys think? :AH-HA_wink:

Much longer than most people think, and this isn't the oldest example!

Pretty cool looking.....

Any pics of the last few years of the GMC version?

Not on my machine, but they are identical to the Caminos except for badging.

Beat me to it, YJ!

:smilewide:

I am liking what I see in this interior shot from the 1978 Caballero brochure:

I wouldn't mind restoring a Caballero (or a Sprint) or even cloning one.

This one of one Camino is on Ebay right now with a starting bid of 25k and a "buy it now" of 35k.

I'd love to own it and have been trying to find out what happened to it for years.

Looks like they're loading cans of GOAT MILK into that GMC in the one picture. Weird!
