July 21, 200817 yr my friend and i brought our cars to the school yard for some pics. The bone stock cutlass is mine, and the Monte (and chevelle in the background) are my friend shane's.
July 21, 200817 yr Author yep, the 70 chevelle is my friends show car, and the Monte is the race car (just got its awesome roll bar) a3nd never say forget the g bodies! we need more respect for these boxy bastards! =)
July 21, 200817 yr I love the G-bodies... thanks for sharing. Good clean photos as well BTW. Now i you could get a Pontiac GP, a Buick T-Type & Malibu Classic 2dr in there we'd have a great G-body wallpaper. But damn the Olds & Monte are two VERY clean semi-classics.... love that stainless steel trim on the Cutty. Say what you will (hardtops aside ) 1987 was still a year when you could buy a classy, elegant 'Merican car. BOF, RWD, a choice of V6s and V8s... who knew the 2000s would make the 1980s seem like "back in the good old days" ...? Now as far as the Chevelle's rollbar, kudos for getting one that does not ruin the lines of the car's hardtop roofline by mounting so that it is visible from the outside... if and when I ever put a rollbar or a roll cage in a hardtop car it will hugg the roof, A & C pillars tightly so as to not ruin the lines of the slick pillarless greenhouse. I saw a custom made (but very professional) roll cage in a hardtop 1st gen. Camaro (67 IIRC) that was virtually invisible from the outside anywhere except in the A-pillar area. Plus WTH would you want t rollcage that is as expansive and lareg as possible?
July 21, 200817 yr Author 68, the reason you dont see the roll bar in the chevelle is, well, simply enough, its in the monte the chevelle is just a cruiser, the monte's gonna be a single digit car soon... hopefully.... and the other night cruising the local hot spots, i was parked next to the monte, a grand prix (with a big block and a blower) and a regal.. i so wished i had a camera!

July 22, 200817 yr LOL! I figured . The minute I saw this thread tonight, I thought, 'holy crapola...he posts on a night when I don't check my boards/forums'...! Sorry, I wasn't online last night...had driven to western IL (almost near the MS river) and didn't get home until late and was a bit tired...so, figured I'd just catch up tonight! Anyway...how about some more pictures? Interior shots, etc.????
July 22, 200817 yr The G-bodies and the B-bodies were nice back then. I l.ike that you didnt chop the Monte Carlos body to make it into a racing car. I always thought the G-bodies and B-bodies of the 1980's were the point where they were modern enough to live with daily and still had the ood fashioned RWD and BOF and the choices of V8 engines even though the engine choices werent all that powerful.
July 22, 200817 yr Author ill try to get some interior pics soon... i dont have a working camera currently, but ill get one soon. eventually, i plan either a built LS motor, or a nice 455 olds in the cutlass....... but money is a limiting factor!
July 22, 200817 yr Cool...those G-bodies were popular cars when I was in high school back in the day. Don't see nice ones very often any more.
July 22, 200817 yr About two years ago XP and I went to look at a 1959 Buick that was posted in the WantAd just a few towns away... rotted pretty bad, sitting in a small forest of weeds next to a big garage along with some wacky crap like a 85? Impala 2-door diesel, sky blue/ blue cloth, two VERY high milage LT-1 powered Roadmasters & one Fleetwood Brougham. Inside the big garage was a $hitload of Buick & Cadillac motors & parts along with Two 1940 Buicks, one parts car sand one mid-restoration, and a very clean & sleek looking 1987 Buick Regal that was powered by a Cadillac 500 with all the work done with love and care, not some redneck hack-job! That was the coolest "hot rodded", naturally aspired G-body I've ever seen. The guy made everything fit correctly & look professionally including a few custom suspension pieces like a hand made sway bar.... The B-59 was a 2-dr hardtop Invicta but it was pretty much a VERY ambitious restoration or a 85% complete parts car.
July 23, 200817 yr Author hopefully moe soon, i gotta wash the car up, and i rely on my friend since not only dont i have a camera now, but i suck at photography
July 24, 200817 yr ill try to get some interior pics soon... GOOD!!! BTW...your buddy posted over at MCSS some additional pics: http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbt...9353#Post589353 Hope it's OK that I posted the link . I haven't had a chance to post a reply yet, but I probably will later tonight.
July 24, 200817 yr Some fine machines right there, my friend! I've thought about a G-body about a million times but everything I've looked at has been used and abused and rotted. If I could find one as clean as those, however, you'd better believe I'd be driving one!
July 24, 200817 yr Yeah... the irony is in these parts the average '87 G-body that sells for under $5,000 is more beat &/or rotted than the typical '60s car I've owned. Seriously. I did, back in 02, come |this| close to buying a ultra-clean 305 powered 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix T-top... it had the X-treme S10 rims on it, they actually looked alright, and the ONLY reason I did not drop down the $3500 o.b.o. on that clean as a whistle '86 GP was because I found/bought myself a bitchin, cosmetically-trashed but very solid 1968 Camaro hardtop with a 377-hp ZZ3 - 350 for only $5000! That I do NOT regret.
July 24, 200817 yr Forget the G-Bodies, is that a Chevelle I spy in the background? I think I'm in lust. Who needs internet porn when there are cars like that to look at? Chris

October 11, 200817 yr It is kind of hard to find a good G-body. There are a couple around here but not too many. What few there are the person has put those stupid 24 inch wheels on them so they look like they are on stilts. Used to know a couple that had a pretty nice at the time 1981 Cutlass Supreme. But it went to $h! and I believe it is now scrapped.
October 11, 200817 yr Very nice, SS623. Now, what do I have to do to get your friend's address so that I can take that particular Chevelle off of his hands? Edited October 11, 200817 yr by YellowJacket894
