Mom just picked up her Enclave and it was parked next to my wagon here at work. I could not resist snapping a photo of them side by side. It is amazing how far cars have come in a relatively short amount of time. The sfaety, economy, comfort, convenience...it is all LIGHT YEARS ahead of what was on the roads 51 years ago! I cannot imagine what cars will be like in another 50 years!

What further amazed me is the length of the two cars - it is almost a dead heat between the two of them!

Who parked a Chinese transport-pod next to that gorgeous BUICK!?

J/K.... somewhat. The Enclave is gorgeous, too

bad the motor is installed incorectly right from

the factory on 100% of them... it's turned 180*

I agree that the motor is the wrong way in these...but it does drive nicely, and this truck is screwed together really well. I really found it to be a great driving unit. Still prefer my Tahoe.

Don't get me wrong, I luv the Enclave, but man, that Buick station wagon is so choice. So expressive. I wish cars of today would capture that 'thing' they used to have.

Yes, that side trim line on the '57 is what the '10 LaCrosse is going for with it's character line...but...something's still missing.

Don't you mean 90*?

Yeah, transverse. 180 would be interesting, though...a transaxle ahead of a north-south engine in the front. Such a layout could have nice proportions (front axle far forward) and good weight distribution, sort of a front middle/ front drive layout.

I can guarantee you one thing- there won't be anything CLOSE to the degree of change between 1957 and 2008. A few more airbags, laser turn signals, automatically-polarizing glass and the 20th generation of the continual morphing of music hardware is about all I would expect, and none of that ilk is particularly stirring.

I got looking at that photo of yours and thinking, that is almost art....really like the cameras point of view. Most people take the same ol' standard on the ground shots. I think it's suitable for framing. ;)
