What if you took the Chevy Cobalt Coupe and gave it the open-air feeling of a convertible, while maintaining the coupe’s roof structure? GM Performance Division engineers asked that question, and the Cobalt SS Coupe Open Air is the answer. It features a Webasto five-panel, electronically operated glass roof that opens up to reveal an interior with unique fabrics, leather-wrapped instrument panel upper, door trim uppers and steering wheel, as well as body-colored bezels and instrument panel trim.

The exterior also receives star treatment, including a special Gold Rush two-stage exterior paint that was developed specifically for GM Color Studios. Other Cobalt SS Coupe Open Air exterior elements include GMSPO 18-inch, polished aluminum wheels, carbon fiber front and rear fascia extensions, rocker extensions, rear wing and outside rearview mirror caps. A detailed engine compartment, Wilwood brake rotors and caliper and a GMSPO catback exhaust system with bright outlets complete the Cobalt SS Coupe Open Air picture.

That color is sweet, though I'm sure it's really expensive. The wheels aren't too great, but I'm liking the smoked headlights. I think they should make this engine standard in the SS S/C.

Maybe we'll get interior pics from actual SEMA show-goers, but for the last two years now GM hasn't done interior pics for whatever reason.

With the glass roof, would it still be structurally rigid?

I like the contrasting lower ground effects, the rims, the powertrain enhancements, and the smoked headlight lenses. The color is cool for a show car, but wouldn't be practical for production. Lose the wing. :AH-HA_wink:

This should be a production car. The idea gives a big "'Eff off Scion tC!" feel, and that's not a bad thing.

That color is fantastic..........It woudl be awesome if you could order the cobalts ground effects like those shown in silver then you could have a killer 2 tone paint job.........ala 2nd gen Cavalier Z24 and last generation Monte Carlo SS I also love the front end treatment with the smoked lights and the bottom intercooler opening. The only thing I dislike about the car is the rims and I also love the specs on this thing.

No different than the G6 with the big sunroof

But if you look closely the whole roof is glass, not like the G6. The G6 still has a big frame around the glass panels. But oh well. I forgot the Astra Convertible. I guess it's fine then.
