I am with you on this. I have both new and old. Like them both. I wont subject an old one to winter here if I can help it either.

Nothing wrong with owning a nice beater. One of our clients owns a 5 Series BMW that he bought new and is really anal about keeping nice.

His Wife has a Benz about like Sixty Eights that she bought new and loves.

She is a stewardess for Delta and he is a building manager. They also have a Cavalier. Perfect airport car when she flies out of town for a few days, and he can haul a coumpound miter saw or a couple of Sawzalls or whatever without having to get the bimmer dirty.

They've had the Cavalier for ten years and its doing great.

for me, I have been thinking quite a bit as of late about picking

up late 60s to early 70s GM hardtop, pref. powered by a small

eight or Chevy 250.

I'm really liking commuting in a 20+ yr old Merc 500SEL.... it's got the intimidation factor with the massive grille. 4800lb of German engineering. Smooth, quiet, comfy, huge sunroof, feels as safe as driving a bank vault. The only negative is the lack of cupholders and no remote for the locks.

Love my B-bodies too. Reliability hasnt been perfect but far better than a lot of my co-workers older cars. Both have rebuilt transmissions. That I was told is a downfall of the first few years of the 4-speed overdrives. If I cant get a new vehicle to replace the Equinox next year an older B-bodu isnt out of the question. But it has to start in -20 nights. And deal with our sometimes severe winters. Lets see, I have the Pontiac and Chevrolet versions, maybe I should get the Oldsmobile since I did have a chance to play with a 1984 Buick Park Avenue a few years ago. Though that I think is techniclly a C-body.

I like old and new cars, too...for the most part, but of course, I like more so the older cars.

I'm wondering now if the lowered gas prices (LESS THAN $3 per gallon in my part of Chicagoland) will take away from the alternative fuel programs ... I hope not, because you never know....

ALSO...in searching for a winter beater, I may have to decide between a FWD coupe and a RWD sedan ... either way, I lose. I don't like FWD...and I don't want a sedan because I'm single...

Plenty. An average Mercedes big body lives to see a half million

miles in Europe, here in the states people junk them t 200,000

or 300,000 miles because of something stupid like maybe they

do not feel it is worth doing a brake job or new shocks.

Sure the parts are slightly more expensive, but you get what

you pay for and lets face it: the labor is always the bulk of a

repair cost, and since the 500SEC is RWD most repairs I can

manage myself.

Figures, I was going to ask a girl out after she got her divorce final. I have known her all my life. What does she do? Shacks up with some other co-worker. Nice guy dont get me wrong but still. I have never thought about that with the 3 4-door B-bodies. The 1st 1981 Caprice was a 2-door. Nice thing though about the 4-doors is that you dont have those big long heavy doors. But yes the 2-doors look cooler. Dont really know what to tell you Cort except that like I said, it hasnt really entered my train of thought.
