October 9, 200817 yr when Porsche 911 ads talk about Co2 and MPGs. (I flipped through a few car-rags at the pharmacy today)
October 9, 200817 yr On the other hand, it is really cool that cars like the Z06 C6 are ungodly fast and pollute about a hundredth of what their brethren from the sixties did. Without pollution laws we might not have modern engene management systems, modern Fuel Injection, etc. I like both old and new cars, thank you very much. Cars and the environment can co exist, contrary to people on both the left and right saying they can't. Chris
October 10, 200817 yr Author Agreed 66S. Although classic cars > newer cars. Almost always, IMHO. Anyway. More stupidity: Apparently a 20oz. Coca~Cola contains 2.5 "servings." Edited October 10, 200817 yr by Sixty8panther

I wont subject an old one to winter here if I can help it either.
October 23, 200817 yr Nothing wrong with owning a nice beater. One of our clients owns a 5 Series BMW that he bought new and is really anal about keeping nice. His Wife has a Benz about like Sixty Eights that she bought new and loves. She is a stewardess for Delta and he is a building manager. They also have a Cavalier. Perfect airport car when she flies out of town for a few days, and he can haul a coumpound miter saw or a couple of Sawzalls or whatever without having to get the bimmer dirty. They've had the Cavalier for ten years and its doing great. Chris
October 23, 200817 yr Author After enjoying multiple beater B-bodies, esp. the RoadmOnster I really have gotten spoiled. The room, cushy ride, intimidation factor and bullet proof durability of my Buick works very well for me, I have been thinking quite a bit as of late about picking up late 60s to early 70s GM hardtop, pref. powered by a small eight or Chevy 250.

I'm really liking commuting in a 20+ yr old Merc 500SEL.... it's got the intimidation factor with the massive grille. 4800lb of German engineering. Smooth, quiet, comfy, huge sunroof, feels as safe as driving a bank vault. The only negative is the lack of cupholders and no remote for the locks.
October 23, 200817 yr Speaking of a world gone mad, the headline on last week's Onion newspaper sums it up well: Bush Calls for Panic And by the way, WMJ's avatar is so perfect for these times.... OMG! ONOZ! CHAOS! AUGGGGGHHHH! Edited October 23, 200817 yr by moltar

October 24, 200817 yr Yes...I love the Onion... Dollar Bill on Floor Sends Wall Street Into Frenzy Yes, great, pointed satire. The videos on the site are well done also.

Love my B-bodies too. Reliability hasnt been perfect but far better than a lot of my co-workers older cars. Both have rebuilt transmissions. That I was told is a downfall of the first few years of the 4-speed overdrives. If I cant get a new vehicle to replace the Equinox next year an older B-bodu isnt out of the question. But it has to start in -20 nights. And deal with our sometimes severe winters. Lets see, I have the Pontiac and Chevrolet versions, maybe I should get the Oldsmobile since I did have a chance to play with a 1984 Buick Park Avenue a few years ago. Though that I think is techniclly a C-body.

I drive our 500SEC quite often even though it's Julie's car & I gotta tell you, it may have cost double what a GM 2-door luxury coupe did in 1984 but in this case it was worth it. The whole car is built, acts, responds and drives as if it had 50,000 miles, not almost 200K. The doors, trunk, sunroof, everything opens and shuts like a brand new Cadillac. The unusually high rocker panels that help to strengthen (fu*k your B-pillars!) the chassis and meet the door for extra support in a side impact & even the firm but well sculpted seats... The more I drive this car the more I want to buy Julie a mid 1980s to early 1990s Mercedes E-wagon and use the Benz for my driver.

How much life does this thing have left in it? Whats this I hear Mercedes is going to switch to FWD soon? J/k
October 26, 200817 yr (I flipped through a few car-rags at the pharmacy today) Good night shirt tail ... how long were you waiting at the pharmacy??? I like old and new cars, too...for the most part, but of course, I like more so the older cars. I'm wondering now if the lowered gas prices (LESS THAN $3 per gallon in my part of Chicagoland) will take away from the alternative fuel programs ... I hope not, because you never know.... ALSO...in searching for a winter beater, I may have to decide between a FWD coupe and a RWD sedan ... either way, I lose. I don't like FWD...and I don't want a sedan because I'm single... *sighs* Cort | 35swm | "Mr Monte Carlo"."Mr Road Trip" | pig valve.pacemaker WRMNshowcase.legos.HO.models.MCs.RTs.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "This might not be good" ... October 26, 200817 yr Sedans arent so bad Cort. I have two and an SUV and I am single. And maybe you could get used to FWD. I did. Took a little bit but I did.
October 26, 200817 yr Author And maybe you could get used to FWD. I did. Took a little bit but I did. Life is too short to eat Hot Dogs all the time. Esp. when Filet Mignon and Lobster is so damn cheap!
October 26, 200817 yr Author How much life does this thing have left in it? Plenty. An average Mercedes big body lives to see a half million miles in Europe, here in the states people junk them t 200,000 or 300,000 miles because of something stupid like maybe they do not feel it is worth doing a brake job or new shocks. Sure the parts are slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for and lets face it: the labor is always the bulk of a repair cost, and since the 500SEC is RWD most repairs I can manage myself.
October 26, 200817 yr Life is too short to eat Hot Dogs all the time. Some of them hot dogs are pretty damn good. Esp. when Filet Mignon and Lobster is so damn cheap! I never though of my B-bodies as being Filet Mignon and Lobster. This gives a whole new perspective.
October 27, 200817 yr Sedans arent so bad Cort. I have two and an SUV and I am single. And maybe you could get used to FWD. I did. Took a little bit but I did. Uh, remember, I owned 2 FWDs...both brand new...both LONG gone. One flooded, what a shame. Yeah, I know sedans aren't so bad ... I just ... arg ... it's just another reminder that this society is centered around couples and families.... *shrugs* Life is too short to eat Hot Dogs all the time. Esp. when Filet Mignon and Lobster is so damn cheap! AMEN!!!!
October 27, 200817 yr Uh, remember, I owned 2 FWDs...both brand new...both LONG gone. One flooded, what a shame. Just like it was yesterday. What kind of FWD sedan is this? A nice older 3800 powered Oldsmobile or Buick wouldnt be so bad. Yeah, I know sedans aren't so bad ... I just ... arg ... it's just another reminder that this society is centered around couples and families.... *shrugs* I know all too well about this society being centered around couples and familys. I get it shoved down my throat everyday at work. Figures, I was going to ask a girl out after she got her divorce final. I have known her all my life. What does she do? Shacks up with some other co-worker. Nice guy dont get me wrong but still. Anyway back on subject. I have never thought about that with the 3 4-door B-bodies. The 1st 1981 Caprice was a 2-door. Nice thing though about the 4-doors is that you dont have those big long heavy doors. But yes the 2-doors look cooler. Dont really know what to tell you Cort except that like I said, it hasnt really entered my train of thought. AMEN!!!! Edited October 27, 200817 yr by 2005 EquinoxLS

January 30, 200917 yr Author You know the whole world has gone mad... When you get a 100% FREE truck that gets you 1500 miles on less than $250 invested. BTW: $100 of that $250 is the 30 bottles of power steering fluid, I'm picking up the replacement hoe tomorrow... enough i enough.
January 30, 200917 yr Time to replace your hoe. It's probably loose and leaking fluids all over the place anyway.
January 30, 200917 yr TAH-hoes are for pussys.... I EMBRACE that 129" wheelbase. The longer the better right?
January 30, 200917 yr TAH-hoes are for pussys.... I EMBRACE that 129" wheelbase. Sixty8, you do realize that DF was referring to your typo of "hose", and not a Ta-hoe, right?!?!
