November 9, 200817 yr Dems Target Private Retirement Accounts yay!, now you don't have to worry, everyone will get the same retirement whether you worked or not....well , maybe not, but it'll be run into the ground just like SS.
November 9, 200817 yr I'm sure people who lost their savings over the last 6 months would be more than happy to have their retirement secure.
November 9, 200817 yr America needed Jimmy Carter to get Ronald Regan, maybe history is repeating itself.
November 9, 200817 yr I am so disgusted that I couldn't read that whole article. That these asshats think this is a good idea is stunning. I hate socialists.

The proposal does not involve "confiscating" existing IRA and 401(k) accounts. You would still have whatever moneys you invested in them. But any more money invested in them would lose all the tax breaks currently given to those accounts. Meaning that employers would almost certainly stop any company match. And no new IRA or 401(k) accounts could be opened any more.

Then you owe it to yourself to research the antidote to the 'Conservative' backlash to Obama's recent election. I did and found the "blogosphere" is lit up with alarmist claims, that truncheons-in-hand, they are coming for your money. As though we weren't already involved in some sort of hyper-sophisticated Ponzi-scheme with the coupon-like U.S. Dollar as it's bedrock. Comrades, relax.

I don't think Obama (whatever else I might think of him) is a stupid man, so I highly doubt that he will mess with 401Ks in the way those extremists advocate.
November 9, 200817 yr I don't think Obama (whatever else I might think of him) is a stupid man, so I highly doubt that he will mess with 401Ks in the way those extremists advocate. Neither do I. I believe it to be a re-aligning the risks of the financial markets as we've witnessed over the last two months and Governmental exposure to it. As the old FDIC-insured limits became 'unwieldy', an adjustment to 250K was enacted. My take: Personal wealth accumulated past the Federally insured limits now carry a much higher risk to the individual saver/investor. What I'm also hearing: Spread it around and diversify as much as possible. The additional capital in flux helps to move the Economy too.
November 9, 200817 yr so would this be anti union, anti workers? yes, tyranny is taking hold....whether it's this or something else..... As I do not know you, I might say you're fear-mongering out of ignorance. But I don't know you, and as such, you've the benefit of the doubt. Edited November 9, 200817 yr by longtooth
November 9, 200817 yr I hate socialism, but it isn't equal to fascism as a philosophy. We have already been too close to fascism in the past at times with both major parties veering too close to that manner of thinking. One thing I have no fear of under an Obama administration is the risk of fascist leanings.
November 9, 200817 yr Author Fear mongering. As bad as Bush. well... until someone or something happens about it.... same could have been said about RP's vision of the "bubble" crash he talked about ~5 years ago. yes, some is fear mongering, but if it shows a real problem coming, how could one say that. the future is uncertain...until someone says we're getting more of the same(big gov't) and you call that fear mongering? Long tooth, i was using it as a visual, not the truth.... but the idea behind it. I guess i'm alittle late with the tyranny comment, cause that has been in "the pipeline" i guess, for many years. whether people call it fascism, communism, socialism, it's still big gov and still anti-constitution, therefor anti-american.

We've been in an "Of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich" kleptocracy for nearly 30 years. THAT is what is truly anti-constitution, anti-democracy, and anti-american.

Could you have linked to a more clearly slanted article? No sources, just straw man arguments. How do I know? If they weren't false straw man arguments, there'd be source material linking to the proof. There would be actual quotes, instead of paraphrasing. And if it were a legitimate source, it would not call anything "disturbing," but rather quote and cite someone ELSE calling it disturbing. I am so disgusted that I couldn't read that whole article. That these asshats think this is a good idea is stunning. I hate socialists. I was so disgusted I kept reading to make sure it was 100% Grade F Bull$h! like I thought it was. And I was right. Look at the date on the hit piece--November 4th. Obama hadn't even been elected yet, so how in the hell would this fear mongering be legitimate? It's a day too early. THANK YOU for posting the reality. I knew this smelled like BS the second I read "confiscating." That would be a massive overreach of government, and one which would NOT fly. No $h!. The few people who have been making money hand over fist at the public's expense are now terrified of losing it. That's all it is. Don't get duped like a doofus. well... until someone or something happens about it.... same could have been said about RP's vision of the "bubble" crash he talked about ~5 years ago. yes, some is fear mongering, but if it shows a real problem coming, how could one say that. the future is uncertain...until someone says we're getting more of the same(big gov't) and you call that fear mongering? Believe in all the conspiracy theories you want on the off-chance that "something could actually come of this," but in the land of the rational, it's just nuts. if people can't "put away money" for retirement like they can now, why do it? if people have too much money, put it in several banks. solved. otherwise people will just continue not to save and thus the consumerism trend continues, only to have this happen again.... ? Concern troll. By the way, this thread wasn't marked as political.
