November 17, 200817 yr It doesn't bother me, I actually think it sits pretty nicely. Not every single car can or even should remain factory stock. I don't believe a stock '79 El will ever hit $25K in collector circles of the future. There were 54,007 other '79 Caminos originally built (not to mention physically identical other years) - plenty available IMO for someone to do whatever they please with their truck. I anticipate hearing many earfuls about my B-59 once it's done & offered up to the public eye. Can't please everyone...

Your Buick is well thought out, tastefully done, and you're not cutting corners anywhere. Purists may turn their noses up but I would argue that the vast majority will bask in its awesomeness and crap their pants when they see it roast tires for an eighth of a mile. We're talking about bottom-feeding mouth-breathing hicks looking out the window of the double-wide into the weeds and seeing the decent-looking ______ that doesn't run and the rotted out four wheel drive ______ that does, cobbing them both together in a weekend, and then insisting on the fact that they're mechanical geniuses for doing so while asking twice what top dollar would be for either unmolested vehicle in A-1 condition.

Exactly. And what's worse, they all too often destroy a rare version of the car to build this junk. Way too many SS cars have been bastardized this way. That said, I have seen a handful of these done using real skill, they remain on their original frames and the 4x4 driveline is adapted to the car. These sit like something that might have actually been built by the factory and the level of craftsmanship is high. I don't particularly care for those either, but I can respect them.
November 17, 200817 yr Well I;m going to interject here and say I'm somewhere in the middle... not quite as pissed off as XP about this but I can see his point, and certainly Balthy has a great point, and in any case I think we can all agree that in the current economic climate this guy's $6000 reserve is laughable and he's wasting his time/$ on e|Bay. Now if I saw this on the guy's front lawn with a For Sale sign reading $1200 o.b.o. I'd be tempted to drive this turd-bucket and have something semi-beater-iffic.
