Netbooks

I've been looking at these things for a while, but I've been having a hard time deciding or jumping on one because they're all so similar.

Does anyone own one, and have any testimonials why they bought one over the other, etc? I don't need a huge amount of space, but I'd like XP because Linux has a big red 'L' on its forehead, and is for communists.

I started looking into them when my desktop went down, but gave up after a bit. They seem like a great deal if all you really need to do is email and websurf. Most of the ones I looked at wouldn't run videos from the likes of Youtube (as well as Youporn, I assume) so it all depends on what you're going to do with it.

They Are small cumbersome and useless. I have an Acer 1. They are cool at first but a 14.1 laptop is much more worth while. Its too small to use for internet use to me. They all are the same use same processor and chipsets. I haven't used it in a month because it pisses me off to use it. My 12.1 Toshiba tablet is much preferable to use.

This would be mainly for school. What I'd like is to do is take notes; I feel like a bum using paper and a pen while everyone else has slick AirMac's.

However, I am taking the slow porn videos into account; so maybe I'll check out something else.

Check Craigslist and local computer places, you can probably find a used laptop for the same price as a netbook. I found a pretty good one around here for $320.

Without even asking for it, I got a netbook, an 'Acer One' for Christmas. However, turns out my parents, and brothers had designs, and took my regular computer for their own use because they said the 450MHz Pentium II I've made them use for over 10 years was too slow. Wimps.

It's good for school, YouTube, and it's decent for pr0n, but my trigger finger has wasted away because I can only run old games, and I'm getting my ass kicked by Koreans in Starcraft.

Build a budget desktop. :P

$800 for Jessica's new desktop in September is superior to my $2k desktop I built a few years back. Of course paying that much then means it's no slouch now and still better than a lot of what you can buy, but a new video card is in order. But I digress. :)

I like laptops, but not enough to choose one over a desktop. My brother paid $600 for his and while it's fine for school it's no gaming machine. Requires low settings just to play FFXI lag free.

If you are looking for a small, portable laptop I would recommend Lenovo X-series.

They can be quite pricey though, and I'm not too sure that they qualify as a "netbook."

I used one of these yesterday...not really sure if it was a "netbook" or just a really small laptop, but my friend basically uses its internet for work. Something like that would be handy for travel, but I don't think I could justify one since I have a decent desktop at my apartment and it wouldn't be able to handle any of the programs I use for work (not to mention the screen size would be brutal when trying to work in max/sketchup/photoshop/CAD).

when are you hoping to buy one? in Q2 i tihnk AMD and intel will sell cheapish, ~12" laptops...starting around $500

He said he got one for Xmas.

sometimes i just kinda rush through threads.... miss things here and there. lol

Yeah, gaming is limited, but I'll likely be building a budget desktop. I just wanna see how socket AM3 turns out. Even then, I may just go with a DDR2 setup because it'll only be for gaming, and mega benchmarks are just a penis waving contest anyway.

yeah... until something close to what you have is no longer being used on those. LOL ... but that has a name, obsolete.
