January 10, 200917 yr Author Why wouldn't they sell them along with all of the other stuff from the Heritage Center at Barrett-Jackson this year, I wonder? For one thing, that would have had to have been setup months ago.
January 10, 200917 yr It's not like the thing has any top secret goodies they can't let get into the hands of the public or anything. It's just a Holden Ute with a Pontiac nose. Why not try to make SOME money off of them?
January 10, 200917 yr Someday when I have grandkids I'll be able to tell them I sat in a car that never existed.
January 10, 200917 yr Author Someday when I have grandkids I'll be able to tell them I sat in a car that never existed. I never even got the chance. I guess I'll never even get to see it.
January 10, 200917 yr Why wouldn't they sell them along with all of the other stuff from the Heritage Center at Barrett-Jackson this year, I wonder? Simple. Prototype cars aren't "up to code" so to speak. Lots of them don't have major components like airbags. Others don't have full interiors installed. The fit and finish can be bad or down right cobbled together. As for the show car...I only ever saw the purple one when I photographed it in a studio early last year. I would imagine they will hold onto that one. Even the show car had little things wrong with it. Haha still had 4 window switches from the G8.
January 10, 200917 yr Author From what I've heard, there are quite a few of them running around (at least one is a manual). I'd take one in any condition.

January 10, 200917 yr Makes me glad that I made the trip out to New York City for the auto show last March and saw it in person on the turntable. Plenty of people were standing around it when I was there.
January 10, 200917 yr we need global automobile standards and certification. we can tier it. i.e. fuel economy standard 2009.02. safety standard 2009.04. emissions 2009.03. then the chinese could sell their crap here, even if it were labelled 1977.03, for example. well you could mandate that no car sold in the US then that can't meet in 2009 for example, global safety standard 2002. or something like that. then you literally could slap a pontiac grille on the holden and sell it here. there is too much money required to do badge jobs like this.

A very good idea!
January 10, 200917 yr Camino, have you tried contacting Scott/fbodyfather yet??? Maybe he can sneak you one for a decent price. God knows GM needs the cash!!
January 10, 200917 yr Camino, have you tried contacting Scott/fbodyfather yet??? Maybe he can sneak you one for a decent price. God knows GM needs the cash!! Heh unfortunately the lawyers would never allow it. Maybe they would arrange to lose one in transport to the crusher?
January 10, 200917 yr Author Heh unfortunately the lawyers would never allow it. Maybe they would arrange to lose one in transport to the crusher? If they lose it in my driveway, that sure would be a happy accident.
January 10, 200917 yr If they lose it in my driveway, that sure would be a happy accident. Hah I was more thinking it would have to sort of fall off the truck a little on I-96 somewhere...
January 10, 200917 yr Author Hah I was more thinking it would have to sort of fall off the truck a little on I-96 somewhere... If it only fell off "a little", I'd be happy to buy it as salvage. :AH-HA_wink:
January 11, 200917 yr I haven't heard of any others. I'm pretty sure they showed a red one at SEMA (with cool wheels) At any rate, I thought about dropping a line to PCS. If what he said about the Vauxhall was true then maybe he could pull some string or you and land an ST. I think GM owes it to you. Or maybe these were just mocked up press shots. January 11, 200917 yr Author Thanks for the sentiment FOG, but they probably see me as the enemy now.
January 11, 200917 yr Thanks for the sentiment FOG, but they probably see me as the enemy now. And to a lot of them, Bob Lutz is an enemy as well. to sticking to your guns!
