While we're at it, 25 years of Volkswagen in China (cheesy patriotic Olympics material)...

It seems as if they're really trying to "integrate" themselves into other countries' popular culture, much like Ford and Honda have done in Europe, building their vehicles locally and investing in local projects. Volkswagen in mainland China ("da zhong") means "the masses" - so imagine that, masses of the people's republic all driving to this one great unifying sports event... in the people's car!

First one reminds me of this 3er commercial which I love...One of my favorite commercials...possibly because I'm in it during the Bimmerfest part...

This is the kind of marketing GM should pursue...They have kind of done it before with a truck commercial a few years ago if I remember correctly...They need more marketing that grabs people's emotions.

This is indeed one of the best automotive commercials...and unlike the Toyota commercials posted below, it's also very true.

What I find funny about the classic ealry '60s VW Beetle making

a cameo in the new VW ads is that while I LOVE the utilitarian,

super functional & wonderfully bulletproof KdF, the VW cars of

the last twenty years are, by in large, nothing but expensive,

over-complicated, boring & uninspired electronic-gremlin-riddled

econoboxes that might be best described as average....

At least back in the 80s there was the hyper-agile & well priced

Scirocco, the later Corrado, as good as it was, already showed

VW's idiotic prepentioin for trying to reinvent the wheel & coming

up short/ dissapointingly unimpressive.

This is an interesting bit of revisionism.

I would like to point out that VW is actually 70 years old.

The first VW was delivered to Adolf Hitler on April 20, 1938. Only the war postponed mass production until 1948. The project began in 1934 as Hitler requested that Ferdinand Porsche design a "People's Car." (Hence, Volks Wagen).

Most intelligent people, nevermind car fanatics, already KNOW that.

Porsche was a genius, but he did BORROW many of his greatest

ideas from a certain Czech by the name of Ledwinka. He had some

radical ideas about rear engined cars, horizontally opposed motors

& wild styling as well. (just to name a few) Pre-war Tatras were the

KdF's & Porsche 356's close-knit cousin.

Could you imagine VW making that commercial? The looks on people's faces alone when they saw it on TV, would be priceless. It would get VW noticed ...
