February 10, 200917 yr I waxed the 92 Regal this past weekend and got an oil change. So far, so good. Went to the train station on Monday. When I got to the parking lot after work, the door handle (spring) gave out. I had to get in through the passenger door, by unlocking the driver door through leaning over the console. What's the story with these? Easy to replace? Re-keying required? You can see most of the assembly inside the pillar. Oh well, after almost 17 years... Any help is appreciated.
February 10, 200917 yr They are fairly easy to replace. No re-keying is required. I had to do it on my Cutlass Convertible and I did it in my driveway with very basic tools. You can often find them on Ebay.

I wondered about the re-keying and am starting to look for the parts. OEM stuff is $$$...aarrgh.
February 11, 200917 yr The parts stores can also order a Dorman knock-off of the OE handle as well. i.e. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,...3,parttype,1024 $72+ shipping there. Edited February 11, 200917 yr by fightingbee
February 11, 200917 yr I'm actually surprised it lasted this long. My door handle snapped off somewhere in the 90,000 mile range.
February 11, 200917 yr If its a 2 door W-body, look for it on ebay or something, they're like $250 or something stupid from GM. It's totally awful. Should be an easy replacement.
February 11, 200917 yr Junkyard FTW You can buy it cheap, and you can practice taking it out. If you break something it's ok cuz it's not on your car.

February 11, 200917 yr Pssst, it's time for a new car ... Oh please. Those are great cars. Really good design, too. I say fix it and keep riding it til it gives out.
February 11, 200917 yr Author Pssst, it's time for a new car ... PCS, the LaCrosse IS the new car. This is the second car which I go to the train station with. Wise up.
February 11, 200917 yr Besides, what kind of retard would buy a new car because the damn door handle broke?
February 12, 200917 yr Author Besides, what kind of retard would buy a new car because the damn door handle broke? I called a few junkyards. Part price: $ 25 Labor price (assuming I'll do it correctly - hey, I did the fan blower motor ): $ 0 I'm supposed to go pick up the part next week when I get back from out of town.
February 12, 200917 yr Wow...is that removed or remove it yourself? I paid $10 for the Prizm's various handles. Of course sometimes I paid 0.

February 12, 200917 yr You mean you never saw anyone buy a car because their floor mats were dirty, I have ... But were they dirty because their latte kept falling out of the cupholders?
February 13, 200917 yr Author You mean you never saw anyone buy a car because their floor mats were dirty, I have ... Those kind of people either live behind gates...or are stupid.
