Rumor: GM to cut G8 production by 97%.

Featured Replies

This is coming from Josh, remember, he's the guy who "scooped" that the Saturn Outlook was cancelled on the eve of its introduction.

97%? Yeah, okay... I'm sure they came up with that number out of nowhere.

It's not like it's selling that poorly compared to other things...

Is he trying to say cancelled?

I'm thinking not...at least for a while anyways....

Well The dealers around here do not need anymore sitting around.

As for the 97% I would guess the 3% would account for the 09 GXP models?

Why import them untill they start selling again. God knows GM does not need anymore cars sitting around than they already have.

Oh, that's "our" Josh?

Anyway, I think there was a planned shutdown of the Adelaide plant for 25 days in the 1st Q of '09.

I hope that isn't right. Anyway as long as dealers have enough to sell and stay on pace. I just hope its not canceled because GM actually can make some money on this car.

It does raise the question, how long can GM keep building this car if they just don't move off the lot?

Only because that's the question the autoblog author wanted you to raise. If you look at the Jan '09 sales of the G8, the Jan '08 sales of the GP, and then the Jan '08 and Jan '09 sales of the other GM cars, that will put things into perspective for you.

Relatively speaking, the G8 is doing well.

Yup, agree 100 percent.

It's actually a 96.75% cut, not 97% :P

I know, right?

I'm getting so tired of the "G8 is going to die tomorrow" bull$h!.

I guess the media wants to make it a self fulfilling prophecy... You know, like the cancellation of Pontiac drum beat and the GM bankruptcy talk. Say it enough times and people will believe.

I guess the G8 was just too good for the market, so they have to kill it.
