The dire situation in which the U.S. auto industry finds itself has created a lot of national discussion, but for many the consequences are much more personal. It's one thing to see a panel of experts discuss the ramifications of bailing out an ailing auto industry on a cable news shows, but as we see in this video after the jump, it's something altogether different when you're the mayor of a town caught in the crossfire. Virg Bernero is the mayor of Lansing, MI and it's quite apparent that he's not content to let pundits shape the discussion about who needs to sacrifice more to save the auto industry. The Fox News anchor conducting the interview can't do much in the face of Bernero's indictment of what he sees as the double standard between the working man and Wall St. Sure, it's funny to watch a news man get manhandled like that, but it's also satisfying to see a mayor under siege refuse to back down. Follow the jump to see for yourself. Thanks for the tip, everyone!

I feel bad for the poor reporter. Actually the major is a bit of a wack job. Trust me I support the American auto industry more than most but still think both Unions need to give because its not 1960 anymore and get costs down more in line with other compaines in the auto industry and other midwestern industry. The big whigs need to take a cut as well, everyone needs to give and its not just the workers or execs. So I don't understand his anger it is just a question, and some of the things he states (mayor) is why people dis-like American cars and disagree with a failed buisness model as I do. Not that I like them anyless becaues I believe in giving American people jobs and American compaines my buisness.

I'm guessing it being Fox New didn't help either.....

Well, at least it's nice to hear coming from someone who actually cares about the average american worker.....

I think if you lived in Michigan, you might better understand. Most of this state is based on jobs just like these...so if you give up too much, it is going to make things much worse around here...

That, and these reporters are everywhere around here too...that alone starts to get annoying.....

And judging by a few of these out of state news places, they seem to be going out of their way to paint us to look like assholes.....

Excuse my french.....

Boy, I can understand why FOG hates the media so much.....

Faux News is full of nothing but jackasses anyway, it's nice to see one of them get chewed out. The mayor is completely in the right. Why should the middle class keep taking it in the ass while Washington and Wall Street (the ones responsible for the mess) have no consequences?

F*ck the media... I'm glad the mayor stuck to his guns.

Stuff like this should've started happening years ago (pertaining to the automotive industry)

GM needs to hire me for PR :smilewide:

Fox news it about the only news I can stand to watch anymore. CNN is ok depending on who's on. NBC and ABC are out of the question (biased straight to the left). But regardless, the media as a whole has gotten way too bias lately.

I can't watch Fox--way too much bias to the right. CNN and BBC are about the only major news sources I watch, though occasionally I watch ABC.

I am totally amazed how the media still doesn't know how that "$70 vs $28/hour" number is created. I know they generally just spit out whatever is put in, but come on!

WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE THE MAYOR OF LANSING CALLING THE SHOTS. IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE CAME OUT AND TOLD IT LIKE IT REALLY REALLY IS.

That's the only thing that went wrong in this interview. The $70 statement was a softball for the mayor to hit out of the park, but he was so "guns a-blazin'" that he missed the opportunity to get some real "news" out there. Though real news does not exist on Fox Opinion.

Fox News is Rupert Murdoch's baby, ideas spun to protect the rich ruling class. Wall St and bankers 'deserve' their billions, but 'fly overs' should clean bird cages and be happy to live in 'A-mur-ica'
