Weird question but...

A while back seeing a Rockford Fosgate system in a car seemed like it was a good sign. Now seeing that system in a car seems more of a joke?

Correct or no?

One need decide whether to swim with the school or alone and unfettered.

Had an RF system in my first Camaro which was so intricately woven into the vehicle that when I (stupidly) traded her in less than a year later on an '00 Z28 I left it intact with the trade. The Monsoon made 'em swoon but lacked the overall richness of the RF.

'Viper I think you've hit on something.

When my '94 Z28 was brand new the Bose system single CD player sounded sweeter than anything I had heard on/in wheels prior.

The memory of how that sounded to me has never been surpassed.

I think that as it pertains to 'tweaking' any system now it is about trying to recapture that sweet-spot that I lucked into 15 and 1/2 years ago when first I fired-up that CD.

All I can say is that I've been unimpressed with each stock system I've had. I haven't heard many at all that impressed me, stock or aftermarket.

-The Millenia's Bose was probably the best thus far, but still not what I'd call great.

-The GAGT had aftermarket speakers, but they were terrible.

-The Jetta's stock system wasn't too bad, but lacked bass, with and without my Clarion reciever.

-The Cutlass's isn't even worth mentioning. :P

Hmm, interesting. I just had an RF system in a press car. Basically...it was good at being loud. Not much else.

My impression of the system I had too with the exception of switching modes to mute treble sharpness.

Best Buy installed it (not a hands-on installer type myself since high school) and they were never able to rid it of low-end fuzz.

Since that phase I prefer smooth and sweet over mirror rattling power.

fosgate is still good, it could just be that they're partnering with oem's and the results can be much less than what people that would have a set up installed properly, would like. so ..they're just trying out markets, to mixed perceptions...

just remember everyone's hearing is a tad different, and some just don't care for good sound quality, over loudness.

I know there was a time when RF was good...now? Not so much that I am aware of. I tend to see them as the brand offered by BestBuy along with Sony Xplod stuff...Basically it seems like flashy stuff offered to ricers, cheapos, and guys lookin for that "bumpin" system.

For big name brands I like JL...though I may be a bit biased because I have a 500/1 amp, 300/4 amp, and 2 JL 10" W3v2's mounted in a box sitting in my room from out of my old truck...They won't go into my BMW without bypassing the DSP though, and I want to use the stock interface, so I'd need to utilize a JL cleansweep or something similar...in the meantime, they sit.
