So what do you know about Fieros?

I think they're interesting, quirky looking little cars, but I want to know about them. What do you know that you can share?

1. Does the hood open up and act as a trunk?
2. What commonly fails on the Fieros?
3. Is the Fiero a reliable vehicle?
4. Is the Fiero really known for anything (aside from blowing up)?
5. How does a 5-speed V6 feel to drive? Slightly sporty at all?
6. How does the suspension hold up? Sporty? Lots of body roll?
7. How terrible is fuel economy (5M V6)?
8. How do they drive in the snow and rain?
9. Anything else?

Blah blah, I've got a bug up my ass, and I'm interested in the car as a possible short-term replacement for the Cobalt.

In university, a friend and I were thinking of doing a body kit on one. We found the prices (esp. for the v6) very inflated because apparently a lot of people are buying them for this purpose.

Get a bike, it will save you a ton of headaches.

Can't drive a bike in the winter.

You can if you're not a pussy. Besides, its March, winter is long gone.

While they will not win any awards for build quality or fit and finish, they can be fun little cars and are becoming a rarity on the roads these days.

I have always loved the V6 GT with the flying buttress rear ends. From what I know: Clutches can be expensive to put in, but the drivetrains are pretty common and off the shelf GM parts. It is also quite popular to drop in the supercharged V6's out of full size bonneville SSEi's or Buick Ultras - and the other common drop in is the Northstar V8 and auto out of a Cadillac.

I personally would love a T-top GT with the V6 and 5 speed to use in the nice months as a conversation piece.

Hey NOS, if you want answers to your questions, go to a Fiero Owners Club online forum. They will have EVERYTHING you need and more. I don't think anyone on this site has a Fiero.

I love the GT's...i I could find an `88 with the motor swapped out for something that didn't suck I'd love to have one.

1988 is the year to go with if you want one. It's the one and only year the Fiero got the suspension system it was supposed to have.

I used to have an '85 GT V6 4 Speed manual. It was alright and would keep up with my buddies Z28. I had to do the clutch and that was a pain.

How does the suspension hold up? Sporty? Lots of body roll? Held tight in the corners but seemed to wander.

How terrible is fuel economy (5M V6)? I got maybe 250km per tank, but it was a very small tank.

How do they drive in the snow and rain? I put 4 winter tires on and had no trouble getting around in the winter.

Anything else? Pain in the ass to work on the engine.
