It had to be a late model last-gen car because it had the polished, non-5 spoke rims on it.

It really hit home for me, seeing this car, that Pontiac should have offered a six cylinder alternative available on the GTO body shell, called it a LeMans or Tempest, and watched the sales come in much better than the $32k V8 Goat. I firmly believe that a six cylinder model would have ensured the GTO's success, and there would have been no question there'd be a modern gen II car.

Powered by a 197 horsepower 3800 engine? :P Isn't the HF 3.6 VVT not much cheaper to build than the LS1 or LS2?

Nah, how about a 240 hp 3.9L?

I guess since the G6 has grown in size over the Grand Am, and actually has a longer wheelbase than that GP, they wouldn't have done what I suggest, even though a RWD car has a completely different character than FWD.

The Autoweek article this week on the 3.5L Charger praises the car for it's lively engine and RWD chassis, making it fun to drive. I just wish GM had something to counter the LXs.
That sounds a lot like the Catera to me, which itself was a fine car. Making the price friendlier to more people would be great, but I think it's already a missed opportunity.
Meh... I'm not a fan of this idea. First of all, I believe that only one name should be applied to a body. It's confusing and just says you're too cheap or not creative enough to give it its own styling. Second, the GTO's body isn't much to get excited over in the first place. It's outdated and bland. It looks good, yes, but it seriously lack's attitude. Third, there would be alot of overlapping. You can't have overlapping unless you overlap the right way. Yes, there is a right way. :P It'll take me explaining my entire idea of how Pontiac should be to explain it, so I demand you to understand it and not ask me. :D
Well do it the toyota way and call it the tempest gto, like the camry solara. :P
