March 29, 200916 yr Very rarely now. I'm not a Tweeting Twat who's obsessed with Twitter, so the new format is very off-putting to me. I was on the old site (the last iteration) frequently, though.
March 29, 200916 yr I was recently badgered into joining by an old friend. It's not my sort of thing, but it is nice to be in touch with a crowd I have history with. I do use a psuedonym, becuse I am not looking to "network" with people I don't already know.
March 29, 200916 yr I've been on it about a year...use it mainly to chat occasionally w/ friends from high school (after our 20th reunion last year, a lot joined Facebook), college, grad school, and past jobs in Colorado. It's been fun....nice to reconnect w/ some people I hadn't talked w/ in years. Only people I know IRL and since I've lived in so many places over the years, people are spread out all over..even stay in touch w/ a grad school buddy who is in Sweden. I use Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, each has it's place and purpose. Edited March 29, 200916 yr by moltar
March 29, 200916 yr being of the younger persuasion, yes, i've seen the 2-3 previous iterations come and go.... you can find me with the only e-mail address I have on here.
March 29, 200916 yr I've looked at it- my buddy is on it. I'm not. IMO, it's a waste of time. Again we agree ... I avoid Facebook and Myspace, to me, you're lacking something in your life if you are on them ... Besides, there's a creepy child porn stigma if your over 30 and on there ...
March 29, 200916 yr A long time ago a friend told me to get a facebook, so I did. I spent five minutes setting it up the night I got it and haven't looked at it since. Couldn't remember the password if you had a gun to my head and don't really care, either.

March 29, 200916 yr A long time ago a friend told me to get a facebook, so I did. I spent five minutes setting it up the night I got it and haven't looked at it since. Couldn't remember the password if you had a gun to my head and don't really care, either. I felt the same way about it as you and Balthazar, and PCS. Until my friend badgered me into it. Now it's kinda nice the way I have it setup, so that a bunch of old friends are now in touch with me again. We never e-mailed each other, and were slack about calling, and are spread all over the country, so being in touch isn't a bad thing. That said, all of the extra BS on there still turns me off.
March 29, 200916 yr . . . . . or you are an active parent keeping an eye on your teenage daughter's activity on the social networking site. Das ist forbotten in my house and my daughter knows it ... I have software loaded that allows me to see every keystroke ... Yeah I know, Germany 1939, but it works for me ...
March 29, 200916 yr My parenting style is a bit different. I prefer the KGB parent style over the Nazi parenting style.
March 29, 200916 yr im present. liked the layout of it 2 versions ago... this new one sucks. i talk to people i went to school with that i care about and whatnot but the only thing i really do is play around on an application called wrestler... beware the IRON CURTAIN!!
March 29, 200916 yr I have an account but don't go on it often. Though I should. As with most everything, it's only a waste of time if you waste a lot of time on it.

March 29, 200916 yr I'm on it, but only to stay in touch with my friends from all over the country. Some of my family work in the U.S. and I keep in touch with many of my former co-workers, so it's easier to contact each other through Facebook. They get to see how my son is growing and how my wife's pregnancy is going. Other than that, I hate applications and rarely update my status. It's not a social-networking thing as much as just a better form of e-mail for me. I started on Myspace, but I couldn't stand all the personal splash screens and glitter $h! that bogged everything down, so I switched to Facebook.
March 29, 200916 yr Many find it pointless, but Facebook is a great way to keep in contact with old friends...especially for me since I'm now out of college and everybody is scattered across the country. I really like sending messages to keep in touch and checking out people's photos (especially if they do some traveling). I could care less about the status updates, the apps, and the chat in general. It's definitely a site skewered toward younger demographics; I've been on it since it launched in '04 for the college crowd and 90% of my friends / acquaintances are on it. I have Myspace, but I don't really like it that much. I check it once every couple days. The ability to personalize your page is the drawback to that site...3/4 of the users there have to put up the most obnoxious graphics, fonts, and colors and it's just a PITA to navigate through all that crap.
March 29, 200916 yr Author Well after my 25th reunion last year, the girl who organized the whole thing set up a page at Facebook for classmates to keep in touch and stay posted on upcoming reunions. So that's why I joined. This one girl I sort of had a thing with in high school found out I was on there and emailed me yesterday evening... she's a widow... and so she's all excited to "catch up". So I'm glad to hear from her and all, but I am not sure how I'll answer certain questions. The "search" function has turned up a few surprises, as well. Since I just joined, I have no reference as far as earlier iterations of the site. It does seem to have a lot of rather useless features.
March 29, 200916 yr It is a high school for people who have graduated from one and still have hormones of their teens bubbling out to be a teenager again - A Cyber Orgy.
March 29, 200916 yr Author Well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, that's what I always say. ORRRGY!!!:AH-HA_wink:
March 29, 200916 yr I use it. Oftentimes I use it just to mess around and post stupid status updates, but I do use a lot of the networking functionality of it.

Then after she pays the tab, break it to her gently. Edited March 29, 200916 yr by regfootball
March 29, 200916 yr I'm on it... Have been for 3-4 years now. I always hated it and MySpace until I moved away from all of my friends when I transferred to another school. Facebook is the PERFECT way to keep in touch (I ab-so-lute-ly HATE talking on the phone to anyone, I mostly text) That said, I deleted my MySpace when I found out they were selling info to potential employers (as a practice, not me specifically) If anyone wants to look me up, feel free to send me a PM. 2 things: 1) Yes, the new version sucks ass, when compared to the previous version... And sucks even m ore ass when compared to the first version. 2) Facebook is VERY different in nature than MySpace. In fact, there isn't even much of a comparison since MySpace is considered to be a part of Web 1.0 and Facebook (and second life and twitter, ect.) are considered a part of web 2.0 (In the psychological sense) Edited March 29, 200916 yr by FUTURE_OF_GM
April 17, 200916 yr Now it's kinda nice the way I have it setup, so that a bunch of old friends are now in touch with me again. We never e-mailed each other, and were slack about calling, and are spread all over the country, so being in touch isn't a bad thing. (and) Many find it pointless, but Facebook is a great way to keep in contact with old friends.. EXACTLY! I mentioned that I'm on it in this thread: http://www.cheersandgears.com/index.php?showtopic=28572 I've been AMAZED at how many people I've reconnected with ... that, for the most part, I had thought I had lost contact with for good. April 17, 200916 yr 2) Facebook is VERY different in nature than MySpace. In fact, there isn't even much of a comparison since MySpace is considered to be a part of Web 1.0 and Facebook (and second life and twitter, ect.) are considered a part of web 2.0 (In the psychological sense) Funny that you should say that, Facebook was around prior to MySpace. In fact, I've been on FB since 2004. It was around quite awhile before that as well. Facebook has more staying power in my mind becuase they cleaned it up with the last two updates. MySpace lost it when they allowed everybody to modify their pages.
April 17, 200916 yr Guilty. It's useful for organizing events and keeping up with people who went across the country for school. I do agree with the sentiment that the new homepage layout is pretty bad. I don't really want to see everything my friends do, especially those asinine "what ice cream flavor are you?"-type quizzes or their top 5 Skittles flavors.
April 17, 200916 yr For me, Facebook is a novelty, and I use someone elses profile to access it. The only useful thing for Facebook is finding pictures of your friends piss drunk, and seeing the whitest kids you know waving gang signs.
April 17, 200916 yr On it since '04. Probably the best way for me to keep up with my HS and college friends since I left VA. I also have MySpace but don't use it as much. Facebook has always been much more streamlined... and secure too. I hope they don't lose sight (wow, I almost typed "site" ) of that.
April 18, 200916 yr I'm young and gay. It's against all that is right in the world for me to not be on it. I've been on both facebook and myspace for a few years now. Wasn't so keen on the idea at first, but it's great for your social life. I've met more friends there than I have otherwise.
July 11, 200916 yr Mar 28 2009 I've looked at it- my buddy is on it. I'm not. IMO, it's a waste of time. Sweet merciful crap- I started a profile tonight (keeping an eye on #1 son). We're just gonna brush aside all the stated, implied & understood comments about 'those over 30', OK ? ....Everything is hidden except to friends- it's even more pointless than I thought. How are you supposed to laugh at the failures & deteriorations of others without them knowing about it ?? Still, I do have some folk to look up... Edited July 11, 200916 yr by balthazar
July 11, 200916 yr Years ago before MySpace was the "it" thing a friend had me join it. It was a see of poor layouts and repeating, ugly backgrounds that made the text illegible. I eventually deleted the account since I will never go on there. As for Facebook and Twatter....not a snowball's chance in hell. The closest thing to any of that I'm a member of is DeviantART, although I go through periods where I forgot about the site for months (once over a year).
July 11, 200916 yr The closest thing to any of that I'm a member of is DeviantART, although I go through periods where I forgot about the site for months (once over a year). I had a similar problem with a myspace clone where I made a profile, made a couple updates and forgot. Months later, I had someone make a call to my house asking if I was dead. It was pretty cool. July 11, 200916 yr I had a similar problem with a myspace clone where I made a profile, made a couple updates and forgot. Months later, I had someone make a call to my house asking if I was dead. It was pretty cool. I used to play Final Fantasy XI regularly, but I get bored with MMO's quickly, so I've gone through periods where I stop playing for months...2 years is my current record. People who i played with thought I was dead or something.
March 27, 201015 yr Whenever my wife leaves Facebook open and steps away from the computer, I changer her status to something gross/disturbing. Right now its "Spasming anus."
March 27, 201015 yr Whenever my wife leaves Facebook open and steps away from the computer, I changer her status to something gross/disturbing. Right now its "Spasming anus." I'm stealing that prank now.
March 27, 201015 yr (Satty's grandma) "...and you were such a NICE little boy..." Nope, pretty much always been an asshole. She does the same thing to me, but isn't very creative, it usually ends up being something about blowing fat guys.
April 1, 201015 yr if you're on FB and like conan o brien at all, check out the group I'm with Coco .... Conan O'Brien's Photos - Cocoshopped 2.0 Top 25. some are hilarious, but all are done quite well
April 2, 201015 yr I'm on it, and I too used to be one of those who thought it was a waste of time. However being that I'm 1500+ miles away from my family and old friends it's a great way to keep in touch. Oh and I get a chance to post statuses on there that make me look like an asshole
April 2, 201015 yr I am not on Facebook. Due to the line of work I am in, I do not want students chasing me down and trying to friend me and I do not want people period in my personal affairs. I have nothing to hide, but I do not want students bothering me outside of the university. I also do not want or need people I used to know or know trying to find or look me up. I have nothing to hide.
June 22, 201015 yr Nope, pretty much always been an asshole. She does the same thing to me, but isn't very creative, it usually ends up being something about blowing fat guys. Today it was: Nickelback is awesome, I want to suck Chad Kroeger's dick!
June 22, 201015 yr I'm still pretty active on it...been on a couple years now...been able to reconnect w/ former coworkers, friends from Colorado, from grad school, college, high school, even elementary school...my use of it really took off after my high school reunion a couple years ago...I play some of the games, esp. Farmville (so addictive). I've reconnected w/ ex-girlfriends and people I haven't seen in 20-30 years, which is fun. For the most part, I haven't friended people that I don't know IRL. Not sure whether I should expand to include more people I know online only. There is a lot of interesting content also on the FB, such as from sites like Motorsport Retro, various automotive blog pages, etc. As far as social media, etc, I'm pretty active at using the FB, Linkedin, and the Twitter..each has its distinct place and purpose. December 16, 201114 yr I finally got it. For what will be my line of work, it's a necessity. Though, it certainly doesn't get a 'Like' from me.
