I paid off the Grand Prix GXP yesterday, the Equinox has been paid off ... Just 40K left to pay off on my house behind the gate and then I'm debt free ... It feels so good ...

The Prius ought to be paid off by the end of the year, the Mini by the end of next year. The Buick is already paid for. The house will be a while. Student loans wont be paid off for a long, long time.

Oh, some day...over the rainbow.

Thankfully, no credit card balances of anything, but the 6-year 1.9% loan on my G8 (almost no interest, longer term...pay it off quicker if and as I please) and my, uh, LARGE student loans from 4-years of Villanova (say, uh, 6 figures literally by a few dollars) will be with me for a while. The latter, especially, I refer to as my "life mortgage" for many reasons.

If it weren't for the student loans, I'd have quite the nice place very comfortably, but even without any car expense, it's too much of a stretch given my current career. That's my one current, uh, issue, but working on it. At least I started with my savings, IRA's and such several years back.

No debt = a great feeling. As for cars, at least that is until something else catches your eye, as happens with most people.

That's actually something I've put A LOT of thought into...

At what point does it (school) get cancelled out by the amount of debt one acquires?

I mean, sure I might have one helluva degree. But does it really benefit me if I'm 6 digits in the hole and having to make 2-3 monthly payments?

Next fall I plan to enter grad school (For my DR degree :P) I'm still not completely sold on it, but I guess the benefits outweigh the cost.

Sure wish I could find a nice company that might help me out a bit :D

Completely with you on that. I still honestly feel that my 4 years were worth every penny, but it's an insane amount when you look at it after the fact or ponder repaying it. That part you don't think about until it's THAT time.

My master plan, especially given my degree and where I was graduating from, was to be able to make enough to live comfortably while also getting the "life mortgage" paid down and off as quickly as possible. That, of course, didn't work out as of yet, other than the enjoying work part. So, daily and monthly, I ponder, how this will pan out for the next umpteen years or, more immediately, what might or should change with what I'm doing myself.

Ah, student loans.

I just have my house which is enough. All the cars are paid for. Oh and the lawn tractors. :D

i only have month to month debt on 1 credit card... but it gets paid off. :)

After graduation, I'll have just over 6 digits in college debt. This Government/Chinese double major better get me a good job :P

Welcome soon to the post college 6 digits club :AH-HA_wink:

Debt is one reason I've been stretching college out, I'm only a couple grand in the hole for loans. That'll change once law school comes around.

will be with me for a while.

Hey, I know Villanova is a good school.

I went to a Catholic undergrad and, because of the check I wrote for years after that, I became cheap. Throw grad school/a career change on top of that and I became even cheaper.

I definitely would not do the private school thing again.

There is no house with a gate or even a circular driveway in my future. Such is life.

As I like to say, Hamilton College is the Little Ivy with the Big Ivy Price. I'm just glad that they pay for 1/2 of it (for the time being anyways...).

:o:lol:

That's right, keep giving me dollars like the extra years on your posts on a repeated basis, and I will be able to buy a house behind gates with a circular driveway. Who knows...we might be coming to Hockessin DE and crash the gates for your 40th.

Tell your wife to have cannolis ready.

Nah, I still write a check a month (it's called graduate school)...but not that many years/dollar amount left on the balance.

I'm debt free except for student loans (30K in the hole), and hoping the stock market's rise will help me pay them off in 5 years instead of 10!

True that...

That's one reason it's taken me so long. I never qualified for grants and didn't want a lot of loans, so I paid my way for a while. (full time one semester, part time the next, yadda, yadda)

But for grad school I just want to get it over with which means that I'll be in the hole quite a bit. I told myself that I would finish this degree (which I'm doing in a month) and grab a job for a while before grad school. However, the market is so bad that I haven't been able to find a job and everyone is telling me "just go ahead and do grad school and use it as a shelter".

Not sure if that's a good idea...
