August 25, 200520 yr Author ...that was quick!..you are right. Cadillac came out with it the next year. It was widely adopted. I hope this style comes back. There is nothing like driving a pillarless hardtop with all the windows down on a nice day. It looks incredible and feels incredible.
August 25, 200520 yr I agree: I daily drove a '65 Bonneville 4-dr hardtop a number of years ago and loved it. I want hardtops back in both 2-dr & 4-drs. (Look down; yeah baby!!) Edited August 25, 200520 yr by balthazar
August 25, 200520 yr Other than manual trannies, RWD and pushrod V8s the Hardtop bodystyle is the most awsome feature/option in any car. It's one of the most significant contributions GM has given to the Automotive World. What's cooler than this? Honestly!? Even Dorky cars look awsome wiht the hardtop treatment. :)
August 25, 200520 yr A friend of mine used to work for a chrysler dealer... which is funny to me mostly cause he's a big buick head.... anyway.. he'd drive around on cool days with the front and rear windows down on a sebring convert and call it a "faux hardtop" he's more of a dork then me....
August 25, 200520 yr Whe I used to work at Bill Deluca Chev-Pont-GMC-Buick I used to take out convertibles in really crazy weather. One time on the 23rd of Dec. wiht flurries in the air slapped a dealer plate on a 1997/8 Mustang GT convertible and dropped the roof. Wiht my thick winter coat on I puled up to the drivethrough on Dounkin Donuts and acted as if I was the most normal guy on the planet. It was like 25 degres outside and my fingers were so stiff I could hardly grip the money i handed to the girl but the look on her face was worth it! Abot a month later I took out a Wrangler on my lunch break and dropped the top and went off roading on a power-line trail in the snow! I'm surprised they didnt; have me put in a stray-jacket with all the carp I pulled there. I did an crazy burnout in 1st and 2nd gear in that very same Wrangler (4.0, stick, sport) and did not realise my manager (Gregg) was a few cars behind me at that intersection. Boy did he ream me out! It was worht it though! :P
August 25, 200520 yr Author Yep, if they want to make 4-door cars really look like coupes, all they have to do is make them pillarless...it transforms a 4-door into something special. Isn't the new Mercedes-Benz CLK coupe a true hardtop(pillarless)? I mean, people, they even made 4-door hardtop wagons for pete's sake, how sharp is that?....
August 25, 200520 yr 1. Winning Lottery ticket for $1million 2. LS7 crate engine = $11,000 3. 1958 Oldsmobile wagon ($1200 pulled out of someone's back yard) 4. 6-speed manual trans. = $2500 5. Blowing the doors off a 2006 Mustang GT in a '58 Olds wagon = Priceless!
August 25, 200520 yr Author :) One of the few thigns Benz does right! [post="3746"][/post] Thanks for the photo, it is a true pillarless hardtop. GM, are you listening...please bring these back.
