May 3, 200916 yr Idle at 1000 rpms? Oh, and no, a new battery will not help your misfire issue. Edited May 3, 200916 yr by Nick
May 3, 200916 yr Author Idle at 1000 rpms? Oh, and no, a new battery will not help your misfire issue. All cold engines idle higher than ones at operating temperature. It's decidedly far-fetched, yes. I'm willing to try whatever theories are introduced to me if they don't require any investment. I just wanted to get it started up and show that it does, indeed, still run. On a semi-related note, the Cutlass is finally running again, as well. It's been dormant since last fall. May 3, 200916 yr Oh, and no, a new battery will not help your misfire issue. maybe the points are out of adjustment
May 3, 200916 yr All cold engines idle higher than ones at operating temperature. True, I've just never seen one idle that high on a cold start, but I suppose it could be partially attributed to that it hasn't been run in a long time.
May 3, 200916 yr True, I've just never seen one idle that high on a cold start, but I suppose it could be partially attributed to that it hasn't been run in a long time. I've seen many idle at around 1250 when started up.
May 5, 200916 yr Author True, I've just never seen one idle that high on a cold start, but I suppose it could be partially attributed to that it hasn't been run in a long time. The Cobalt idles around 1500 on a cold start.
May 5, 200916 yr I think the Intrepid idles around 800-1,000 rpm cold start, 600 when warmed up. The Shadow has a fast idle...1,000 rpm...one of those things that need to be tweaked.
May 5, 200916 yr The Cobalt idles around 1500 on a cold start. Wow...that's more than my motorcycle. I've never known cars to idle that high. My car idles around 750 when it is cold.
May 5, 200916 yr Personally i would take a rubber mallet and hit the engine block until it works correctly. You should also do this to the rear brakes.

May 5, 200916 yr The only thing that will fix that car is 8 pounds of C4 which i can arrange... How about filling it up with gunpower and shooting some tannerite that you wedge between the window and the door frame?
May 5, 200916 yr Wow...that's more than my motorcycle. I've never known cars to idle that high. My car idles around 750 when it is cold. cold idle for mine is around 800-1000 then once warmed it hovers around 500-600 it sort of sounds like its skipping though... may be the xtreme energy hydrolic cam Edited May 5, 200916 yr by cletus8269
May 5, 200916 yr How about filling it up with gunpower and shooting some tannerite that you wedge between the window and the door frame? Why not just fill it up with match heads and blast it off mythbusters style.
May 5, 200916 yr I would take a thousand years to get that many match heads together. Yeah, plus you don't get to shoot at the match heads.
May 5, 200916 yr The only thing that will fix that car is 8 pounds of C4 which i can arrange... ...or sink it off of the coast of Florida to help build a coral reef.... Chris
