The FWD Volvo is the most laughable.

Is the Audi R8 for real?

Out of a Mini, a Volvo, and a freakin' Smart, you find he Volvo to be the silly one? :P

Even in ASSachusetts, teh cops know a good car when they see it:

I can see people fighting over driving the Smart, because women find them cute, and the Mini because it'd be fun to drive.

The Volvo, no so much. :P

1st time I see a Smart highway patrol car. Here in portugal marked Corollas and an assortment of unmarked cars from Imprezas WRX to BMW 335d are used.

Love the MINI and the 4th gen camaro.

...and every time I see a Charger cop car I just want one for some damned reason.

...and the Audi R8 is killer too. Need a ZR1 or a Zo6 to go with it...

The Smart and Mini are probably only there for motorist assistance, it makes more sense to use a small, efficient car like those instead of the 15 year old Tauruses they use here.

Agreed, everywhere. Right now, the Charger is by far the best police car package ever offered in a long time. Built like a tank, very advanced but simple where it counts, RWD, a popular V6 that isn't a rocket but has better power than a lot of the Ford V8's that have been the standard for so long...AND a Hemi/5-spd option if so desired, reliable, and...most of all...a look that just fits police car duty like no other.

It's the best choice, in every way. I'd love to see GM Zeta cop cars, as they use in the homeland of Australia with a similar breakdown to how we see Chargers used here...but it all comes down to availability, cost, etc. As things change in the car world, it'll be interesting to see how the domestic police car market pans out for the next umpteen years.

I have read that the Volvo was the most viable of the test cars they have had. When they get 10 cars to try out and see if they like them.

The sports cars are usually painted in CHP colors for auto shows to attract customers over to certain areas.

I also read that the Charger's rear suspension was not strong enough for the CHP and the cars they have now are still test cars.

CHP cars are all fail in the face of:

and no that is not a photoshop :P

You win this thread.

The Kern County Sheriff got a lot of heat about the stickers on the patrol vehicles, which started out as a joke. I was wondering if the CHP was going to have Charger patrol cars. Last year, they were using them in their non-patrol fleet.
