Vibe production coming to an end

General Motors will stop making the Pontiac Vibe for the U.S. market at the end of August, the automaker announced today.

But GM may continue to produce the compact hatchback for the Canadian market for a short time beyond August, said Jim Hopson, a Pontiac spokesman.

"It is being phased out. We are not going to keep Pontiac in Canada.," he said in a telephone interview. "It is just that the timing may be slightly different than the U.S."

Production of the 2010 Vibe began in March. The Vibe is the only 2010 model offered by Pontiac as GM prepares to wind down the brand by the end of 2010.

The Vibe is produced at the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated (NUMMI) plant operated jointly by GM and Toyota in Fremont, Calif.

No replacement for Vibe production has been determined. But GM said it continues to have discussions with Toyota about possible future production at NUMMI.

Now would be a good time to stop using Toyotas in the remaining divisions.

Thank God! At one point it was set to be the last Pontiac Built.

I was hoping for a Solstice Red line or GXP G8 to be the last.

Yes Dodgefan, I concur with your statement. GM does not need Toyota in any of their dealerships from this point on.

I drove a Vibe rental back in early May. Who knows, that may be my last Pontiac rental car ever. Did G8s ever make it to Alamo or Avis fleets?

finally. GM knows how to build vehicles now, they don't need T.

Wow! This would make room for GM to slip the next gen Astra 5-door into Buick's lineup. It's a far better looking car anyway.

Did G8s ever make it to Alamo or Avis fleets?

Up here I've seen them in Avis, Enterprise and Alamo fleets.

Now would be a good time to stop using Toyotas in the remaining divisions.

...bingo, we have a winner...
