June 28, 200916 yr it actually doesn't look that bad from that pic. How are the typical El camino rust areas?
June 28, 200916 yr Author It's pretty damn bad. Rockers are gone, front fenders are junk, it needs quarters... Oh, and green things are growing in the bed.
June 28, 200916 yr Looks like it's sitting in a damp spot with not much air circulation. Let us know what the purchase price was, and all the deets!:AH-HA_wink: Edited June 29, 200916 yr by ocnblu
June 29, 200916 yr Author No purchase will be happening. The owner wants 2k for it (without the wheels), he expects to do better by parting it out. A shame really, it would have been an interesting car to save before the rust monster took over.

June 29, 200916 yr First year model. No production figures, but total light-duty GMC production (calendar year) was around 140K.
June 29, 200916 yr Sad.. I've only seen one '71-72 Sprint before---a beautiful silver w/ black stripes '71 SP at a Goodguys car show at PPIR back around 2000. I later saw the same truck in Muscle Car Review magazine.

June 29, 200916 yr The one owned by Dan Carr? That thing is stunning! Must be the same car...there can't be many silver '71 SPs in Colorado. A google turned up some pics.. I remember walking up to it thinking something is different about this El Camino before I read the placard. Beautiful car. At the time, I knew about the later Sprints and Caballeros, but didn't realize GMC had a Sprint in '71-72. Dan Carr's '71 GMC Sprint SP Rob Edited June 29, 200916 yr by Cubical-aka-Moltar
July 1, 200916 yr That thing is stunning, thanks for the pics Cubical. As both a 71 and 70 Chevelle former owner, I actually like the 71 bodystyle better. To me, man...wow..I've always wanted an El Camino of that bodystyle. Too bad the rust monster took over.. Chris
July 1, 200916 yr I saw one of those pull out of a Hyundai/Kia facility today. Must've been a contractor...?
